I actually do both! When I read a book that I really like on KU, I'll wait and give the author time to collect the royalties from that month's check out, and then the next month or so I'll buy their book with my Amazon digital credits. Maximum support.

I read a lot of books through KU. I mean A LOT. This helps me filter through books that look okay on the store page but end up turning out to be garbage without having to make any substantial monetary investment. The books and authors that I DO find I like can then get their KU royalties, and then a little bit later down the line I can further support their work while also getting a copy for myself.

I wish I had started doing this earlier, as I unfortunately found that a several of the indie authors that I really enjoyed reading eventually had their stories pulled from checkout/sale on Amazon after the agreed term expired. In many cases after the author passed away, leaving no legal way to obtain a copy from a retailer. One of the more memorable authors would have been Brent Roth, writer of the dragon's wrath series. https://www.reddit.com/r/litrpg/c..._continue/
He posted regular updates on his website and started putting out chapters for his fourth book in the series. The first chapter was a couple days late, the second chapter was 2 weeks late, and then he was never heard from again. Unfortunately because the author was very private and writing under a pen name, no one ever found out what happened to him. After a while his first and then second books were taken down on the anniversary of the date that they were originally published, likely because he was not present to renew the agreement with Amazon. 😞

Amazon/ku loses a pretty significant amount of money to royalties for the number book that I read on the platform in any given year. 😅

Here is the simple/direct URL to the Amazon KU promotion. I dislike having to login from a long referral link.

Edit: oh, also, be sure to check the rewards/offers on your credit card before you sign up for this. Chase, for example, had a 20% back up to $6 when you activate the offer and buy a Kindle unlimited subscription. $6 is $6. 👍

If you're wondering what resources are available for free, check out the info in my post from another thread for some of the best sources.

If you have Amazon prime only you should also have access to a (much smaller) selection of Kindle books without any additional charge.
For those looking for a 6 month subscription, this deal is even better. Though I can't say for certain if the price is offered to everyone, I'm showing $30.

I have to interject a little common sense here. Authors put their books on K U because they find it financially advantageous and remove them when it isn't.

Believe me I've tried both and absolutely still use both. But I cannot find every book I want to read on there at all. My local county library and the Free Library of Philadelphia often don't have the title I'm seeking. OR there's a darn 10-title limit on "holds". Uggh I hate that! KU is a nice thing to have for an avid reader, for sure. Gonna check this out.
I had a great librarian in my little town. Ask for a book and she would buy it.

Can anyone confirm if there is a maximum stackable limit for Kindle Unlimited? My wife currently has six months left and I just bought the 24 month sub. Do I need to wait to redeem it or will it simply add on if I apply it now and bring her total to 30 months?

I don't know if there's a maximum but I buy this deal every year or so and it stacks on top of my current subscription. It sounds like you have to buy as gift then add it.

It stacks. Mine had 4 months left of KU and added 12 after the end date of that.

Shows $30 for me also.
I don't read books, so unless I can find a worthy list of magazines, I'll have to pass.

I used to have kindle unlimited, but switched to Hoopla. It has everything I need and it's free.
Taxes pay for it, but it's a heck of a deal either way! :+)

How do you go about gifting it to yourself? My 6 month for $30 is up in June. Can I extend it for that plan as well?
