This is a great deal if you can get it. I ended up getting the gen 2 because they announced it a few days after I bought the gen 1 so it seemed unwise to not send the gen 1 back and upgrade. I have been pretty blown away by the Beam + two Sonos Ones (which you could replace with play:1 or the cheap Ikea ones). No wires, don't need an additional stand to lift the TV up like you would need with an Arc. It's the perfect setup for an apartment or smaller living room IMO.
The differences between the gen 1 and gen 2 are marginal - at best. There are no up-firing drivers so it's Atmos in name only. Gen 2 probably has slightly better voice clarity on the center channel but unless you have heard both of them one after the other you would't be able to tell. You can pretty much get this refurbished gen 1 and the surrounds for the same price as the gen 2 - which seems like a no-brainer to me. It's what I would have done if this deal had been available when I got mine.
Anyone know if this would be eligible for the upgrade program? Not sure how the timing works for that particular discount, but might make it that much more valuable if it comes with an eventual 30% discount on other Sonos products.
The Arc has a sensor that detects a magnet in the wall mount and adjusts the bass curve accordingly. I'm not preaching, just regurgitating what I read while researching it before my own purchase. I have had mine just shy of a year and it's been mounted to the wall the whole time. We just watched a movie last night and I was re-impressed by the quality.
What I'm trying to say is I think you'll do better when it's mounted on the wall. Also if you don't have the sub yet, get it so the Arc's drivers don't have to do the heavy bass lifting - which will also improve your echo situation.
Is it advisable to place the sub in the front corner or back corner? I have ONE as well for surround.
I already have the play 1's and gen 3 sub. My next pickup is obviously a sound bar. I was initially planning to get gen 2 beam as the reviews seam to point in that direction over the arc if you pair it with a sub and rears .
So what I'm gathering here is that gen 1 vs gen 2 beam is not worth it ?
I have had mine for a few days now.. I found the stereo passthrough to be extremely lackluster, but playing audio with Dolby Digital makes an incredibly difference to where it sounds really frickin good. Give it the right media format and it will shine. Music in Dolby Stereo 2.0 vs regular stereo is also noticeably better.
I have no problems hearing anyone speak or wishing voices were more clear. Sounds natural to me (over the higher end format).
I have a gen1. It's a surprising fantastic soundbar for clear voices and engaging sound from my TV. I've had it for over a year and still pause to think how awesome it is when I use it.

Depends heavily on your room. Although it seems, to me at least, to matter less with the Sonos sub than most traditional subs. I have mine with the port facing the listening area next to my TV stand and it sounds great. But the good thing, since it's wireless, you can move it around your room til you find the place that sounds best. All you need is a power outlet!
So I went for the Samsung Q800A speaker last night and was able to get for 379. I know 150 is like 1/3, more but does anyone have any thoughts? I plan on buying a Samsung TV to pair with it which is why I was leaning that way. I'm not a huge sound guy but wanted an improvement on TV speakers

how did you get the samsung Q800A for $379. Was it on samsung EPP? I bought the Q600A for $330+tax without the rear speakers. $379 for Q800A is a good deal. I got the rear speakers separately. I wonder if the Beam would be better than the Samsung whole system , with added surrond speakers for Beam. Guess only way is to find out. Ordered the beam. will compare and see

Still, it is a good deal, I might ...
