Early tests have shown that SSDs which don't match the PS5's speed requirements actually still work just fine as long as they're Gen 4 (Gen 3 is rejected by the system entirely). It remains to be seen if that's going to remain true once we leave this extended cross-gen period and get games tailored to the new storage capabilities. But I doubt it's going to matter in the end.

So, it's technically below recommended spec, but should work fine.

I have done multiple MSI rebates over the past year and have always got my money. With electronic submission (which is indeed possible on this rebate), you don't even need to print and mail anything. You save money on the stamp, paper, envelope, ink/toner costs.

Not worth the hassle? That's the point.

I haven't done a rebate offer in a while, but it was a thing of mine back in the prime days of Slickdeals. I started logging my rebates in 2015, and of the 70+ rebates I've done since, there was a 100% success rate. Only 1 company has ever been REALLY shady about it, from what I recall (a RAIDMAX rebate).

Attached a snip of my rebate log sheet Date mailed, and date received. Just something to think about

How am I supposed to get the money if i just placed my order? Don't i need the item in my hands before 12/6 (which is impossible) to get the rebate money?
How to Claim Your Rebate card:
1. Purchase any of the products listed above between 12/03/2021 and
12/06/2021 at Newegg.com or NeweggBusiness.com.
.
.
.
6. Mail all of these items to the address noted on the registration form.
Submission must be postmarked no later than 12/27/2021 in order to
qualify.

Seriously, a little reading goes a long way. Maybe that's why people keep complaining that they aren't getting their rebate back. They don't read and follow the instructions so their rebate gets denied, then complain that it's all a scam.

If I purchased on the first round, can I purchase a second time now on this second round and submit separate rebates? It sounded like other posters are saying yes, but just wanted to clarify if doing both rounds would be rebate approved.

Also, on a technicality, I noticed that rebate terms says "between" 12/3 and 12/6, instead of from 12/3 to 12/6. So does "between" those dates include the start and end dates as well? Trying to double-check before I jump.

Rebate is not live on the rebate site as 12/3 at 8PM EST. Typing in the offer code says to contact msi rebate support regarding the issue. Hopefully they get it fixed by Monday.

Generally speaking with rebates, as long as it is a different offer number you are ok. That said, I doubt anyone knows 100%.

Just installed mine from previous deal. Have a thermal pad sandwiched between it and the steel backplate (rear m.2 slot on motherboard). Haven't seen it go higher than 50C, but these aren't stress test lvls. Usually idle at 40C.
In my new laptop it idles at 30 to 40 C. It does not get much different speeds than the Intel SSD already in there, but the pc only has PCIe 3.0 slots

I pulled the trigger.

It's going in the motherboard's 2nd M2 slot, so it would be PCI 3 x 4. (First has a 1TB Samsung 980 Pro) I'm hoping it's as fast as the fastest non-4.0 drives that have DRAM out there.

If I can get the $20 rebate back it will be a great deal. That's going to be the iffy part since people say the rebate# showing on the form isn't on their website. If it could really be submitted online, that would be great.

Would this drive be as fast as a Samsung 980 (non-pro) or a XPG 8200 pro (pre-component swap)?

For those asking about PS5 I think this drive should be more than enough. Absolutely worst case scenario you will have to install few future PS5 exclusives on internal. But even that is unlikely. As for multiplatforms I can't imagine any issues considering that Series X is half the speed of this drive. Games would be optimized for slower drives anyway.

Thumbs down, rebates are so 2000's it's like asking to never see that money again, never worth the hassle
I agree it sucks and it was almost a deal-breaker for me when I saw it was a rebate. But I have had good results with rebates through Newegg, I just had to wait two months or so, which is annoying and a little angering. It exercises my capacity for patience, at least.

Plus, it's a pretty dang good deal. I've become a junkie for SSDs.

I ordered one on Oct 22nd in the past deal, tracking showed UPS waiting to receive product, finally updated Nov 1st they received, appears will be delivered Nov 4th. Just reference for time it takes to ship/deliver.

Same thing happened last time. It was available by time item shipped. Check date purchased on invoice in your account. Newegg got time wrong for some orders and it showed a day earlier.

around post 88.

Ordered early on 11/22 in original batch and received on 28th. That set sold out quick and then they came back up on backorder. Those took longer to arrive of course

Newegg's free shipping is super slow now compared to what it was like years ago. Disappointing, but free shipping is free.

PS5 specs for SSDs state "5,500MB/s or faster is recommended". This drive has a rated sequential read speed of 5000MB/s. You'll have to decide what they mean by "recommended". My guess is that the 500MB/s difference isn't enough to impact performance in today's games. But a few years down the road, you might find games that can benefit from increased speeds.
I would agree. This should work fine for games available right now, but if it starts to be a bottleneck in the future you could always take it out, put it into a USB 3.2 enclosure, and use it for speedy external storage that's faster than currently available SATA SSDs of the same price.
