Early tests have shown that SSDs which don't match the PS5's speed requirements actually still work just fine as long as they're Gen 4 (Gen 3 is rejected by the system entirely). It remains to be seen if that's going to remain true once we leave this extended cross-gen period and get games tailored to the new storage capabilities. But I doubt it's going to matter in the end.

So, it's technically below recommended spec, but should work fine.

I have done multiple MSI rebates over the past year and have always got my money. With electronic submission (which is indeed possible on this rebate), you don't even need to print and mail anything. You save money on the stamp, paper, envelope, ink/toner costs.

Not worth the hassle? That's the point.

I haven't done a rebate offer in a while, but it was a thing of mine back in the prime days of Slickdeals. I started logging my rebates in 2015, and of the 70+ rebates I've done since, there was a 100% success rate. Only 1 company has ever been REALLY shady about it, from what I recall (a RAIDMAX rebate).

Attached a snip of my rebate log sheet Date mailed, and date received. Just something to think about

So question. Been out of the PC building game for about 8 years. I purchased an Asus z690 TUF motherboard, are the heat sinks included good enough and if so does thermal paste need to be applied? TIA.

Thumbs down, rebates are so 2000's it's like asking to never see that money again, never worth the hassle
This is a hot deal even t without the rebate. For a 1TB 5000mbps drive, 95 dollar is as low as it gets. I don't believe you can find another similar drives for under 100. The rebate is just icing on the cake

In for one, thanks. Love rebates as I never had a problem with it. 2% cashback and 5% paypal covers the tax so $75 for 1TB is just peachy.

Yes, those heatsinks on the Asus should be good enough. Just make sure your case has good airflow. Don't apply any thermal paste. If you remove the heatsink and look at the bottom, you should see thermal pads (there may be a protective plastic film covering the pad that you should remove before reinstalling the heatsink on top of the SSD).

in term of speed, no, the 980s read/write is 7,000/5,100

the m470 does have an advantage in the tbw at 1600tb, while the 980 is only 600tb (for 1tb version)

I got this drive and I can attest that fastest read speed is 4Gbps, not 5Gbps. Write speed is a tad bit below advertised speed but who cares about write speed that much.

Just in case anyone is wondering how reliable the advertised speeds are...

Wow that is very surprising. How much data do you write per day/week? I have ssds much older that still have 90%+ life left.

I decided to bite for PS5 storage. Going to need this sooner rather than later.

I think you are trying to say 4GBps or 4000MBps, but not 4Mbps. Even then, that number is still wrong.

Just in case anyone is wondering what the real world speeds are...

Rated Sequential Read: 5000 MB/s
Rated Sequential Write: 4400 MB/s

Real Sequential Read: 4998.70 MB/s
Real Sequential Write: 4287.99 MB/s

The form needs to be made available at MSI's rebate site. Hopefully Newegg or MSI would be made to honor it if it's some sort of a mistake.

So true. I'd like to talk to a former employee at one of those "fulfillment (as if)" centers. I'd like to ask him what percentage of submissions did they just throw away, I mean get lost.
Half the people don't even bother to submit the rebates, so why should they even bother with underhanded tactics? If they were trying to cheat people, why they make it so easy with electronic submissions? The company doesn't want to cheat people, then customers won't buy their brand of product again.
