They both have their place. A fixed is preferred by many as more dependable, less maintenance, and stronger (if you have a full tang). A camping enthusiast needs this for batoning wood, for example. For every day carry, folders are simply easier to hide and have a more comfortable form factor.

I bought my brother the wood handle version of this several years ago - it's a beautiful knife. If you're able to spend a few $ more, it's more handsome than the black version.

If you plan on carrying it with you, make sure you don't run afoul of your state laws. In California, for example, having a concealed fixed blade knife is illegal.

Ordered one, although, since I do not camp/hunt/the like, have no need. It is a good value, and I like large, well-made knives. Thank you, OP, and repped.
I like it, want it, but have no need either and am wondering if I "need" this, lol. Beautiful knife tho.

I wouldn't consider myself a "prepper" but I do believe in being prepared for survival in common situations. The problem is that you can't cut a virus, radioactive exposure, or toxic fumes with a bunch of knives and guns. I'm sure this is a great blade for cutting sapling for a campfire, but survival often requires mobility. How fast does one move carrying 20 guns and knives while running from a wave of fiery, toxic fumes?
You can't cut a virus, but it sure can help you enforce social distancing! lmao...

What's the advantage of a fixed blade knife? I'm a newb, so I'd think a folding blade would always be more handy.
Fixed blade is better for stabbing motion (I'm not saying we should go around and stab things). Folding blade has a chance of folding itself and cut your own hand.

Has anyone checked but I thought this was the regular, normal every day price in stores?

This brings back some memories. Spent alot of time shaping this model of knife when I worked for Buck back in the 80's. Great deal on a quality knife from a great company.

Usually the people that would want this knife isnt going to have it concealed. More than likely on their belt or attached to a bag.

Yeah, and if you have scads and scads and scads of ammo like some good old boys here in SC I know, you got pretty well all you need if you know how to use 'em, and, believe me, these country boys do.

I checked a goodly number of places, more than 5 or 6, & most were $69.95 or so, and even higher.

Many of us have a good supply of ammo for various rifles, shotguns, and pistols. My favorite rifle is my Rem Model 700 BDL in .270 with it butter smooth action and a Leupold 3x9 from the early 1990's. Also have a Ruger American, and while it's a very good budget rifle, it's not as accurate as the Rem. That said, the Ruger will get the job done and one will save some money to buy ammo. The .270 is a excellent caliber with a wide bullet selection. Easy to add to the collection, but hard to sell as one becomes attached to them. Just like a good knife, especially the vintage kind.
