I don't think I want to trust my storage needs to a refurb ssd. I'm all for deals but storage integrity is worth a few extra bucks.

Anyone else equate used SSD purchase with used underwear purchase?

Visit Samsung.com using education or company discount, you can pay same price if not similar for a new one, especially for the 1TB+ ones

Ah yes, MSI a company known for the innovation and reliability in the field of solid state storage. lol. I wouldn't put any eggs in that basket.
MSI doesn't make the M470 drive. Actually uses Toshiba NAND and Phison PS5012-E16 Controller. Exact clone of Corsair MP600 (2019) Even Number on PCB is same Q020012SE00402E-V1

Picked one up today. Took about 45 minutes to get it, because the Geek Squad was still working on it in the cleanroom, replacing some capacitors on the board and swapping out the controller chip.

They gave me a report that show exactly how many bad blocks they'd mapped off so they wouldn't be a future problem (423,117).

So far, looks good.
Complete BS. Best Buy doesn't have a clean room, and they don't even have a soldering iron. They ship out most of their hardware repairs. I own a computer store less than a mile from a Best Buy and we get a ridiculous amount of referrals from them because none of the stores in Orlando can fix anything beside virus removal.

These are not like most refurbs, some how Geek squad probably used them for testing bad SSDs on laptops or something.

I bought one last time 860EVO, like most people reported during that batch, majority has less than 10 hours turned on time and most had 1 or 2x write.

Good deal.

How do these Geeks refurbish these things again? Do they have mini soldering irons?

Perfect for all those low-end, bargain SD laptops you want to upgrade.

Keep it cheap.
2.5" maybe, but there are cheaper NVME out there
