Can someone explain the difference between Swift 3 and Swift 5? I was thinking to wait for a Swift 5 deal but the spec of this Swift 3 looks very close already.
Swift 5 lies above the swift 3 lineup. It offers better build quality and the option of a touchscreen.

Don't forget that the Acer is a 13.5" which does make a difference.

3:2 rocks for productivity so much that it overcomes the drawback of black bars for consuming media. But, we or as least I spend so much time on the web that 3:2 pays off that entire time. I am close to 100% online in some fashion.

For me, it's either 16:9 or 3:2. Choose.

I got the walmart black friday Swift3 for $500 (14", 8GB, new, 1080p). It is fast and seems great --even the touchpad and keyboard. The bloatware uninstallation was a 30 minute hassle though.

One picky defect: Though Thunderbolt works well, it only carries one monitor signal (I have verified this well personally and read of others who have too). I can choose which monitor to output to, but it can't detect both simultaneously.
It is a quirk of the system that I can live with, but not everyone can. It has an HDMI workaround (and you can still use the internal display too), but that takes away the "one cable" benefit of thunderbolt.

Doesn't surprise me one bit Acer cut corners to save money despite the extra physical ports

Not to mention silver keyboard does not help in looking at letters, and tend to fade out..

I know I just returned the xps 13 from last week. I bought both the i5 with 8 gb and i7 with 16 gb.
It depends on what you want. For me 9305 is a higher build quality I liked the keyboard and mouse pad; however, for what I do a higher resolution means more real estate for looking at medical records and spreadsheets.
For what I do I don't necessarily need 16 gb and between i5 and i7 it is pretty negligable.

I would suggest you see if you can tell the difference between a FHD and QHD.

My goals were screen resolution, light weight, battery. hence this deal makes sense for me. The 16 gb was an extra bonus. I'm running word, excel, 12 tabs on firefox, powerpoint and windows will allocate the 8gb ram just fine.

It will be nice if someone can comment on the battery life on this 2k screen. Not sure if 2k screen is even meaningful on laptop screens.

yeah I'd be interested as well. 13.5 it's nice to have more real estate. I can see more on my emails/spreadsheets with QHD versus FHD. But that's user dependent. A little more clarity on text so that's nice to have on a smaller display.

Great specs, but Acer is still peddling their sh*tty charging ports and power supplies, which tend to break, rendering your system useless.
I recommend you get a laptop that is charged via USB-C.

Don't be like me, stuck with acer swift, and a broken charging port.

This charges with USB C per Acer's website.

What you got is perfect for content creating, esp for that price.
This acer is directed more towards productivity and general daily life tasks, and a bit of coding.

If you want further help with choosing, search swift 3 on YouTube and watch the video by techchap. He compares these two laptops. Although he picks swift 3 but that's primarily because the swift X costs around a $1000. Since you got it at a great price of $799, I'd say you absolutely made the right choice.
