It was re-released in 2019 due to popular demand. I used the MX-510 from 2004 to ~2014 and then have been using an MX-518 ever since. Any other mouse just feels out of place to me!

I'm the opposite I cant go back to a mouse that weighs more than 90g. Usually wireless mice weigh more due to the battery.

My MX518 lengdary started double clicking after 18 months. My original one still works, but I had to replace the mouse cable. I used that one for maybe 4-5 years as my primary mouse.

Logitech makes you do a million steps to RMA it even recording a video. It's insane. Anyone know if there is a way to bypass the BS on a logitech RMA process?

I install new MX518, no more double clicking, put old one back, it double clicks. Seems like enough troubleshooting to me to say that its bad.

All you can do is support customers with better rma practices. Since you're already invested in another Logitech device, either toss the broken one or expect more of the same.

There are several good mouse manufacturers these days so you have other options.

Mx518 used to be the standard all mouses tried to achieve. Logitech's quality control has since gone downhill once they have had mass-market appeal. I am especially pissed that they have left the harmony remote game.

On the flipside, I've had mine for over a year and it's going strong. Love it.

Best mouse ever. Don't hesitate to buy. These literally last forever.

edit: i feel like I have to add to this. I've been hearing a lot about recent QC issues, for that, I can't really comment because I bought another one about a year ago, still going strong. So here's the gist, this mouse is legendary. It was the first optical mouse that I bought, literally when they first started coming out. The only issues that I've had was gunking of the plastic material. At some point, I went to salvation army, picked up a bric-a-brac mx518 that wasn't working and replaced my cable with that one. I am literally still using that same mouse from 2005 as we speak.

Logitech is no longer the same Logitech back in the original mx518 days. I went through their RMA process hell only to be told go pound sand. Made the decision to take my business to elsewhere in the future. As much as their products are appealing nowadays they also break a lot. Back then you just called them up and they gave you replacement, no questions asked. No longer is the case and even with proof of purchase you're left with shitty product. I loved mx518 just like many others but I won't be getting this one based on my experience with their customer service.

I've had 3 of these mice. The first I got in 2009 and it lasted me until 2019. It was amazing. When it finally broke for good, I got the updated 2019 model and I was able to compare them.

The build quality of the 2009 mouse is better, noticeably the wire is thicker and the plastic feels a little heavier. My cat killed the first 2019 mouse in about 6 months of ownership. I was bummed, I understand they don't expect cats but the wiring is really thin. I still got a new one after because well, I can't really change mice after 12 years, and it's been holding up for about a year now. No issues.
