I get a cheap screen protector for my non-sapphire watch. Work wonders.
Sapphire editions add the quality and durability of a scratch-resistant sapphire lens and other premium materials.
In my experience the non sapphire screens are still very good and most don't scratch them unless your plan to be very rough with them. My fenix 5 non sapphire lasted 2.5 years before I got a small scratch on screen and I have done multiple obstacle course races with it.
The Garmin watch is totally different from the Apple Watch.

It is a sports and fitness oriented model, and it is the best at that. Is it a good smart watch? Yes, it does that to.

Garmin is for folks that put a priority on tracking activities over having a smartwatch that does everything else.

I recently bought the 6X Pro for $490 + 10% cb w/ Amazon Prime Rewards Visa. I don't really need the 50% extra battery life, so I'm debating returning the 6X Pro and getting this 6 Pro for $400 + 5% cb, and save about $60 before taxes. Unfortunately, delivery on the 6 Pro is estimated December 16th. Or, spend a little more and get the 6 Sapphire, and get it delivered tomorrow.

The money pincher in me says to get the 6 Pro and buy an $8 screen protector. Or be really cheap, and just keep using my Fitbit Ionic that I need to charge every two days, and I've replaced two times over the last three years with my Geek Squad Protection warranty.
The x does mapping. If you don't need that then sure.

Edit actually i think I'm wrong. All pros do mapping. X is bigger.

Dang…now I wish I would have waited. I just bought the 6 (non pro) for $349 a few weeks ago.

Anybody want to buy a gently used 6?

Money aside, the 6X is significantly bigger and heavier than the 6. Which one you prefer is a personal decision.

Sapphire does not have pro? Any difference between 6 pro and 6 sapphire other than the glass?

Fenix 6 Sapphire is essentially verything you get with the Pro with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal lens on top. Other than that, there is no difference.

In series 6 solar doesn't add that much value, as the battery is already vastly improved over series 5. I would rather go for the sapphire version than the solar one.

Also based on some reviews, the Sapphire has a better backlight than the other versions in addition to the screen and hardened coating on the bezel. Though the Pro I purchased on BF isn't anywhere near as blue as what's shown here but definitely still has fairly high black levels.

Though for the Fenix 6 series the solar adds somewhere around 20% battery life during an activity under IDEAL conditions - meaning turning the watch face at the sun and bright sunlight. Being that the watch is on your wrist and you're not turning the watch face to the sun at all times I'm going to guess it's probably +10% in real world during an activity. Idle it's probably around 20% as the drain rate is much lower so the extra 2 days of idle battery life which is what they market.

If anyone purchased recently from Amazon, were you able to get the price difference refunded? I tried via chat and no luck.
I just did via chat and got the price difference refunded back to the original payment method. I did have the link to Amazon's current listing/price for them and assuming what the rep said goes through the price difference is being refunded in 3-5 days. I did see the policy change when looking around for price adjustments but maybe I just caught a rep not aware of the new policy? It's possible though... the worst case is just ordering another one and immediately returning it (maybe after checking which one's backlight is better... lol) which seems to be a waste.

Each day is a day closer to the next version.
Personally holding out for the LTE feature the 945 has.

BTW, if you have never owned a Garmin before, I highly recommend you pickup a Garmin Fenix 5X Plus Sapphire for $250 refurb first before you invest this much into a watch. I have been very pleased with my 5X Plus and will be skipping the entire Fenix 6 series.
I went that exact route. I am an avid hiker and really enjoy the integration with All Trails. Battery life if incredible compared to my GF's Apple watch. The 5X Plus Sapphire refurb was a killer deal I found on SD. I could not be happier with this watch.

Make sure you know it's very heavy and I know a couple guys who feel tired of wearing it daily.
I just got mine in yesterday and the 6 pro is actually lighter and thinner than the Fenix 5. It's as comfortable to wear as the garmin instinct that is replacing.
