In my experience the non sapphire screens are still very good and most don't scratch them unless your plan to be very rough with them. My fenix 5 non sapphire lasted 2.5 years before I got a small scratch on screen and I have done multiple obstacle course races with it.
It is a sports and fitness oriented model, and it is the best at that. Is it a good smart watch? Yes, it does that to.
Garmin is for folks that put a priority on tracking activities over having a smartwatch that does everything else.

The money pincher in me says to get the 6 Pro and buy an $8 screen protector. Or be really cheap, and just keep using my Fitbit Ionic that I need to charge every two days, and I've replaced two times over the last three years with my Geek Squad Protection warranty.
Edit actually i think I'm wrong. All pros do mapping. X is bigger.
Anybody want to buy a gently used 6?

Though for the Fenix 6 series the solar adds somewhere around 20% battery life during an activity under IDEAL conditions - meaning turning the watch face at the sun and bright sunlight. Being that the watch is on your wrist and you're not turning the watch face to the sun at all times I'm going to guess it's probably +10% in real world during an activity. Idle it's probably around 20% as the drain rate is much lower so the extra 2 days of idle battery life which is what they market.
