I bought this last BF at gamestop for around $30. The gameplay is ok, there's a new charging mechanic to build up trick shots and whatnot to make the rallies more interesting. Definitely more akin to an arcade style than the n64 or 3ds version.
The campaign was really poorly designed, just some generic dialog screens between some matches and quick events. The online seemed to function ok, not a ton of people playing but I usually found a tournament to jump into eventually.
I played it for a while then ended up trading it in as the gameplay gets rather dull after some time.
I bought this last year for roughly $32 but ended up selling it before playing. I kept reading reviews and apparently there's almost no re-playability and difficulty levels are skewed. I really wanted this game to be like the gameboy version I loved but apparently there's less content in the switch version than the gameboy version... Like someone else said, not sure how this is worth $40

This game is definitely worth it. It is pretty challenging and has a lot of two player value.
@Nintendo, if you're reading this, bring back Super Mario Striker (NGC era)!
