I went the NFC tag route during my first play through recently. I will say that the feature it unlocks is very handy, but not critical to enjoy the game. I wouldn't spend this kind of money just for the feature, but if you like collecting them, why not?
It's kind of strange to me that the Amiibo doesn't show Link's Loftwing, the red one. It's the one that you summon every time you use this thing. It's not like Zelda's Blue Loftwing has anything to do with the story or has any real importance. I think they should have gone red here. It could still make sense having her pose next to Link's Loftwing.
I saw that you can buy a pack of 25 small cards that does the same thing as all the amoebas. Not sure if it's officially licensed but the last thing I need is a bunch of "figurines" in my house. For some reason it just adds stress to my life.

Yup, There is also a way to do so using a smartphone accomplishing the same goal.

Love the analysis and I would agree. I played the Wii one back in the day and I thought links was red. Do you ever even see Zeldas loftwing again after the beginning?
