If it is important to you, this newer version of the AX3000 only includes TP-Link HomeShield. The old version, the Archer AX50, includes free lifetime subscription to TP-Link HomeCare "featuring next-level antivirus, robust parental controls, and QoS". Here is a good article that reviews the difference: https://www.androidcentral.com/wh...k-homecare Also here: https://community.tp-link.com/us/...pic/503110
I caught the same thing. Appears the newer tp-link products want you to pay a monthly fee on what last years routers came with for free, and that's a nope. I was going to upgrade from my router with Homeshield, but I'm not going to pay a monthly fee for a router.
The initially were going to charge for homeshield, then found out that nobody wanted to pay for it, so they made it free...and now they're going to try the same thing and hope for a different result?
This thing has caused so many problems for me. It has a nasty habit of overheating and freezing, reported in various places on the web. Make sure if you do get it, that you put a USB fan next to it or something.
