why? are you planning to use the knife as a decoration?
The etchings are tiny, hardly noticeable. The bigger concern you should have is what sort of defects these knives have. I got a bunch of knives during the last sale and I couldn't tell much, except 1 that looks like the tip was broken off and they rounded it down.

I picked up 3 small cutting boards and a sharpener this time around. The prices on the knives aren't as great as last time, especially compared to the Kaji initial price mistakes last time.
50% off the Shun website price is pretty relative since other retailers such as Amazon carry their products too at lower prices.

ex. The Sora Santoku 5.5"
https://shun.kaiusa.com/sora-holl...-5-ol.html
vs.
https://www.amazon.com/Shun-Hollo...01DYHI4NK/

$50 at Shun (Warehouse products with possible imperfections, no warranty, non-returnable) vs. $79.95 at Amazon (new normal product).

Taking all the above into account the discounts are pretty underwhelming.

What cutting board recommended for the shun knife? I use steel cutting board with four stars now.

I didn't know a steel cutting board existed but I'm horrified. That's begging for a quickly dulled knife. Either use plastic cutting boards or softer wood boards. The ideal wood are those cube looking end grain cutting boards. Sorry I don't have an answer for this specific deal, I'm just repeating some basics I know

For those Japanese blades, boards made of mid-soft woods are recommended. the popular kinds widely used in their homeland, Japan, are Ginkgo, Magnolia, Hinoki (includes Hiba), Willow, Kaya (Torreya), etc. The problem is, a cutting board made of softer (but not too soft) woods is rarely seen in the US market and would be expensive even if you could find it. Probably the most affordable choice that is also easier to find in the US would be Hinoki. I would highly recommend an edge grain board to last your brittle Japanese blades longer. A rubber cutting board is another excellent choice. Keep your Japanese blades away from traditional butcher blocks, harder wood boards, bamboo (affordable but would damage and wear your Shun blades quickly), plastics, and stones, if possible.

I've never heard of a steel cutting board, but that is terrible for your knife blades. Can't believe such a product even exists. You need to use plastic, bamboo, or wood cutting boards with all knives.

It doesn't say anything on the Shun site about not sharpening warehouse items.

For anyone wondering, Shun knives are fantastic. I got the Shun Premier set as a wedding gift 9 years ago and they're still going strong. From time to time, I mail my knives to Shun for sharpening and maintenance.

Shoot, I have that knife and it's the most versatile in the product line.

Seems to be in stock here:

SORRY, when actually trying to buy, it says "out of stock". Stupid vendors, why put an "Add to Cart" button only to get your hopes high...

Please don't use a pull through knife sharpener on these.
