Good price for HDMI 2.1 or even 2.0 with that many hdmi inputs
A few unknowns on this one though:
1) Will yamaha do the board swap for refurbs?
2) Does the 24gbps HDMI 2.1 have limitations over the 40gbps that most others are offering?

so it is not upgradable if you don't buy it from Yamaha? even people who bought from Costco earlier cannot get it upgraded?
but it is not really a deal breaker because you can circumvent this by connecting to TV first and have eARC for sound?

Except that now you're cutting down the open hdmi 2.1 ports on most TVs to 1 extra. Unless you have an LG tv. I've only been able to find 2 port 2.1 hdmi switches. This may be enough for a lot of people.

Don't get this receiver if you're interested in HDMI 2.1 Gaming. Even after the board swap its going to be limited to 24Gbps, which is half the full bandwidth of HDMI 2.1 and will result in a lower quality image.

24Gbps will allow 4k/120 10bit at 4:2:0.

All HDMI 2.1 tvs are 40Gbps now (well the C9 is full 48Gbps..but the last 8Gbps doesnt really have practical use in 4k..does in 8k though)

Today the XSX/RTX/AMD are capable of 40Gbps or 4k/120 10bit RGB (4:4:4).

Today the PS5 is capable of 32Gbps or 4k/120 10bit 4:2:2; Sony has stated that new HDMI 2.1 features are coming including 40Gbps support.

Normally Chroma subsampling isn't a huge deal, but where it does make a difference is in fine details, particularly in the background. Subsampling essentially adds a bit of blur. Say what you want about the new systems/cards; but where they excel today is in boosting the fine details; subsampling essentially takes some of that detail resolution away.

Heres an example of the differences in quality on a real image between the different chromas :

This receiver is a Costco exclusive. Nobody else sold them, except for some 3rd party sellers that bought them from Costco and jacked up the price.

Fwiw- Costso was selling these new for $330 earlier this year.

Comparing to the two models (Denon and Onkyo) Costco is current selling, this receiver lacks True 8k however the work around is connecting to TV first then eARC. But this one has the two preouts for the two front speakers that the other two model do not have. So in theory you can hook up external amps to have better overall sound (run the fronts using external amp and relieve the workload for the receiver to only need to drive center and the smaller speakers) In other words thus receiver allows an upgradable path for audio.

So I had a surround sound Reciver go down on me, 8-10 months ago. Been using my darn phone for night time music. Thought I aint no retail little turd, I am gonna watch slickdeals and wait for a deal. Then I thought I will wait until black Friday, gotta have a deal then... so now it has passed and the only two deals were for $500 units. Ok retail turd it is... start looking and darn it, I think they are all on Ships, and the price has skyrocketed... I think the world has been taken over by the darn sound bars... smh

Hopefully I got all of the dirty words cleaned out of that message to my brother. I was gonna jump on this. Any $350 or cheaper recivers out there? Bluetooth a plus but not a deal killer just need 5.1 + for the bedroom. Not begging here but unemployed so no longer in the good reciver market

I've had it with AV Receivers!

Always 2Y behind the present-day technology! We screwed ourselves by purchasing an RX-V685, with no connectivity!
- No bluetooth!
- No Wifi!
- No HDMI 2 / HDCP / No 4K!
Always obsolete before they even show up at Costco!
7.1 Channels of pure unadulterated can't-use-it-for-anything !!

Only if you bought it two years ago. I've been very happy with my TSR-7850 purchase. It keeps getting firmware updates with new features, like AirPlay 2 and new streaming services.

That said, this TSR-700 seems to have been a bit of a turd, so I would wait for the next Yamaha Costco model if you can. I also dislike the lack of physical buttons on the 700 and hope they revert this on future models.
