A 1lb bag of shelled pistachios is about $13 regularly.at Costco.

But unshelled never seem to taste as good as when I pull the shells off myself. Anyone know why? Maybe because they take the shells off before they roast them?

I agree, they never taste as good when they are already shelled. I purchased these anyway, they are easier on my teeth when I put them in salads.

Unshelled does taste better. I've no idea why, but it's definitely not just you. That said, I love the BBQ flavour and highly recommend it. I don't usually buy flavoured nuts of any sort (salt, at the very most), but something about the BBQ pistachios really does it for me. It's significantly cheaper at Sam's - $.45/oz at Sam's vs $.79/oz at Amazon.

Incidentally, the selection at Sam's is also better if you're looking for flavoured pistachios (at least online, never paid attention instore), but for whatever reason, the BBQ flavour is super cheap.

It tastes to me like the exact bbq flavor on Layschips.
