Not bad. However reviews suggest the 3080 is severely limited due to the heat, performs worse than the Legion 5 Pro 3070 across most if not all benchmarks; you are really paying for the packaging and form factor with this one.

This is like comparing a Porsche 911 to a Dodge Challenger. This Razer is a 14 inch laptop that is 0.66 in (16.8mm) thin and weighs 3.92 pounds (1.78 kg). This makes it very easy to travel with or type on your lap. The Legion 5 Pro is a beastly 16 inch laptop that is 1.1 in (26.85mm) thick and weighs 5.7 pounds (2.59 kg).

Yeah, this is true. I sold my Legion 7 Pro for a 15 Advanced. It doesn't perform as well, but it performs great and it's not even close in terms of portability. The numbers don't do it justice.

Yeah, I have an advanced 15 and omen 17 (cross-shopped with the l5p). Completely different presentations and form factors.

To me the 3080 mobile at 95-105w on the advanced does just fine; I run 4k/60 at ~90% render perfectly on AAA games without a lot of heat, it's portable, and runs great at 100w usb pd. For a pure desktop replacement I would look at the bigger ones, but for portability with great build quality I love these.

Razer is definitely a qc roulette though. I'm 2/2 with a stealth 13 and advanced 15, and kind of want to test my luck with one of these.

Not so easy to type on your lap while your legs are being cooked.

Not bad, but the size of this machine makes it so a 3080 performs about the same as the 3070 model. If you get a like new no scratches machine, though, the price is worth it.

Yeah, I have the Legion 5 Pro Gen 6 3060 16" 1600p 165hz and it's on par or outperforming the thinner Asus G15/M16 laptops with the 3070 I was testing out.
One thing to know is that you should also upgrade the RAM if you buy that Lenovo if you're using it for top top gaming performance. Look into the youtube videos that explain which ones to buy, because there's a few ones that fit the mark. Has to do with dual channel ram and timings or something.

Anyway, I found that I'll be commuting a lot and have time to get some studying done in between work, and I managed to randomly find the Razor 3070 version when it was on sale for $1500ish. For a 4lb 14" laptop with decent 350+ nits, 1440p screen 165hz, it covers a lot of what I want.
However, I know the cooling is not going to be on par with Lenovo's larger laptops.
The exhaust in the back of that thing is a great design feature, as the keyboard will remain cool to the touch unless you're hardcore gaming, and even then it's still very comfortable to use.
But the thing is so chunky I can barely get it out of my bag. The G15 and M16 Asus had all sorts of weird lag issues and the brightness was kind of meh, and when I changed the OS it killed the battery life. Overall really sluggish on battery with Asus due to some weird throttling stuff going on, touchpad would stop working often on both of those machines. Lenovo is generally a perfectly smooth machine.

It's kind of wasteful but I might keep both the Lenovo and the Razor, especially since I don't really trust Razor's quality. They can't make keep their DeathAdder and other peripherals from being disposable products, but I've heard good things on their recent laptops... 2 year warranty made me bite.
I also heard that if you change out the NVMe you gotta play with some settings to keep it from disconnecting due to some power constraints issue. Looking great already...

In 2 years 4000 cards will have been out for a year so you'll want to replace it anyways and the cycle continues.

Anyone know if that allstate warranty is any good? I had a few razer laptops in the past and all of them needed warranty work for some reason. With a 3080 crammed into a small chasis, I imagine this will have an issue sometime in the 2 years.

From what I read online, the allstate is basically square trade which I have used in the past and was absolutely trash. I am not 100% if this is the case but any input here would help.

Wait until late December, they will probably have better deals on their refurbs. Got a 4k oled rtx 2080S last year for 1200. Better than any deal in 2021.

Razer quality control is really awful. Had a coworker go through like 3 of these before he gave up and bought a desktop. I also went through like 5 razer gaming mice in a year (all RMA'd)

$2000 for a laptop with only 16gb of RAM seems steep. The rest of the specs look good if you're okay with an AMD CPU.

You can't really compare this years pricing to last years pricing due to extended shortages, etc... Waiting is always advised as prices on tech always goes down the longer you wait but I'm not sure we will see a better deal on this specific laptop in 2021.

The real waiting would be for the 2070 version which should be about 3-500 less than this and have about 90% of the performance.
