Also anyone know how long this $50 discount on the 5a is going to be offered?

EDIT: I found it good through Dec 26th.

Apple is as bad - and apparently signed a secret deal with the Chinese government.

Samsung disables eSIM functionality on their flagship models (and claims it's because the carriers won't allow it - although Google and Apple seem to be able to persuade the carriers).

Motorola's only eSIM offering is the razr - and it's single sim to boot.

So who should I buy from, if I'm looking for 5G / dual sim with eSim?

not worth it, will give it another year and pick it up for for less than $299
According to that logic, might as well keep waiting another year and get it for $199. Anything electronic is cheaper a year later... especially in the cellular world.

Not sure if this is a helpful comment here or not, but you can get this for $9/month × 24 months = $216 on Google Fi by pixel subscription.

How would you describe and compare them? I've currently got a 4a.
Pixel 5a vs 4a:
Battery life a bit better
A little too big and a little too heavy
Screen just as good
Water resistant <- this is nice. My 4a got some water damage in the charging port
It's got an additional wide-angle rear-camera lens which I've used a few times and is nice to get that wider shot without having to back up
Gaming performance better
No free photo backups <- this sucks
Vibrator actuation seems higher quality
5G <- I didn't get it for this because 4G was plenty fast for me, but that 5G is pretty nice

If someone were to offer me either a 4a or 5a for free... I would probably pick the 5a since it seems a bit more durable and future-proof. But the 4a is still my favorite Google phone.

This is at $349 on the fi app if you are able to keep to service active for 90 days. You get the 349 price right away at checkout, and should activate (if new Fi customer) and retain (for both new and existing Fi customers) the service active for 90 days in order to get this price. If you deactivate the service or take out the fi sim and put it in another phone, you break the terms of the agreement and Google will charge you the discounted $100 on your credit card that you used initially. What you can do is take out the Fi sim after activating (and NOT put it in another phone and switch on), and put your own sim (from another service like TMO or AT&T or others) into this pixel and use it like that. Just DON'T put the fi sim in another phone and switch it on.

So many weird comments here. Bought this in October for full price, it's worth about that price. Came from a OnePlus 3T running the pixel experience rom so the experience for me is about the same, but the hardware is better now.

Camera software is top notch, pixel phone features are great (assistant, spam blocking, call screening, no waiting on hold), just overall great experience. I had no issue spending $449 and it'll last for years.

I've heard pixel 6 is kinda big, though part of me wishes I would have waited. But this phone is awesome! Go get it.

How easy is it to migrate from a Samsung Galaxy phone to Google Pixel? I've been on Samsung for 10 years.

Not op but this is being heavily reported the past few days. It WAS a secret until it wasn't. Now there's a lot of nuance to any secret deal with a government so a statement like that doesn't even scratch the surface. There's pros and cons to every deal you make in life, same with Apple.

If it's no longer a secret, then it's not a secret. Get what I'm saying?
And yes, agreed with you on all the rest.

I bought one of these for my mom and it gave her nothing but trouble until I switched her to a different phone. I know I probably got a lemon but it still left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm currently trying to fix the operating system without deleting her user data because it decided to crash and is now stuck in a bootloop. Overall a frustrating experience with the phone but ymmv

This has been the price at Google Store for at least 3 weeks now (since before thanksgiving).

You can also get 3 months of Google Fi Unlimited free at that price. The phone is still unlocked and you are not required to stay with Google Fi if you don't want to.

I did just that from a S9 to a Pixel 6 today. Couldn't be easier. But I never used any of the Samsung apps anyway. Love the Pixel 6 so far and not having any Samsung bloatware on my phone. Give it a try.

Ironically a Pixel and then root it with CalyxOS.org. I did that for my P3 and P4. I'll never go back to using stock Android because Calyx along with Lineage and others are perfectly fine sans Google, and you still get your dual SIM, good camera, etc
Thanks. Is this easy to root and tether with this? Being able to root/vpn and tether would be good on a 5G phone..
