I think the best price before was $50 higher at BestBuy.
With the quantum dot display, full array local dimming, 600nits and HDR it should have a good image quality.
  • 100 Day No Regrets Guarantee - Buy and Try a 2021 ULED TV with full confidence thanks to a 100 day risk-free trial.
  • 4K ULED: Like great, but better. The 55U6G has our exclusive ULED technologies. They boost color, contrast, brightness, motion… we could go on. It's the TV your old TV wants to be.
  • Quantum Dot Wide Color Gamut: See over one billion shades. Quantum Dot produces purer, richer, more brilliant colors than a regular LCD TV. We could get into the science. But it's a lot easier to say it makes every day look like the 4th of July.
  • Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos: Dolby Vision HDR picture and Dolby Atmos sound are cinema technology for your home. They provide amazing realism you can see and hear in every scene.
  • Peak Brightness/Full Array Local Dimming Zones: The higher the nit rating, the brighter the screen. Most laptops are between 200-300 nits. Anything over 500 nits is extremely good. This is 600 nits peak brightness across 36 local dimming zones.
  • FilmMaker Mode: This technology is a collaboration between filmmakers, studios, electronics companies, and the UHD Alliance. It disables post-processing and preserves correct aspect ratios, colors and frame rates to display content as it was intended.

In a well lit Living Room, is this going to be a noticable improvement vs TCL 55P607? We mainly watch streaming content. thx!

Stick with the well known brand like sony I returned a Hisense u6g and it had a terrible panel. So mich ghosting blur and in dark scens could not see anything except solid black
First Response time is tricky. In general ips panels are faster than va . That is why va has ghosting problem in fast moving games or scenes. The nembers are normally measured grey to grey which can be cinfusing when comparing two types of panel. Hisense is va not ips like this sony. Ips has better black worse view angle and color. Creators use ips since va give unnatural colors because of there step reduction nature. But still va is not bad choice if you have a dark room and put a sofa just in front of it with no view angle it includes the height you seat and tv is located as well. If you want the best of everything bad news is that you need to get an oled which is much more expensive. Even if you want va just avoid cheap panels like Hisense it is not only va vs ips but also how tgey reproduce picture. As I said Hisense was pretty bad in its class and had abovee average blurr ghosting compared tonother va and bad dark scene clearity which is result of cheap panel and processor. I have no idea how rting is comming with those biased numbers. I got a sony x800(x80j, x81ch same thing) and could not be happier. Colors are as accurate as my high end monitor which I got for pic/video editting. It is not just black level there are many factors. The sony reproduce objects in black scenes way better and more clear. If you want a va based on how you use it then get one from a bettrr brand just not this one ! This was way bellow average among va panels for sure. Get one from Sony or other well known brands samsung, lg, …

Not familiar with TCL but this TV is not that great . I would say there should not be that much of a difference. This may be a little brighter. But I really do not think there is a huge upgrade

Sorry you happened to have a poor experience with a Hisense. Rtings.com disagrees with you.
You tout Sony, but where are you going to get a decent Sony for even $749 like the better Hisense 55U8G?

I've got a two year old Hisense 55 H8F still great picture and working fine.

I just bought the latest 55U8G ULED for the lower family room and it is even better in color, streaming, even upscaling Over The Air broadcast TV 720p and 1080i stations. Sports look great.

Maybe you weren't patient enough to follow and use Rtings.com recommended settings or optimize your Hisense. My two are spectacular for streaming, OTA, Blu-ray and 47 UHD on a disc.

Rtings don't speak for everyone. They do make mistakes. I rather go with well known brand.

Hisense is the 4th brand in Google rankings for the US. Their market share has increased for 4 years straight. People are becoming familiar with the brand at this point and sets are outlasting other brands in their tier.
