I try to not worry about resale and see where my kids take the play, it's amazing how they seemlessly combine different genres and create a new story.

Also, if something hasn't been played with in a while we disassemble it into ziplocks in reverse directions, another way to learn about construction. And store it back in its box (no display cases) if it was truely a good set, they will remember it and want to build it again down the road!

Ultimately, I hope my kids want to come up with their own creations when they are old enough and that we will have the pieces to do so.
I second this!

My 8 y.o. stopped playing but just enjoys building, same as me. We just display them in a case.

But I really like the idea of taking them apart in reverse. I might start to do that.

I find it soothing to build and I take my time to enjoy the process.

Have some questions to LEGO lovers.

How much fun you may have to play an amazing set like this?

If my kids do not play with me, I feel boring after I build them up.

The next question is what will you do after you played with it? Place them in a show box? Build ou own city? Resell them online?

We have most of them displayed on shelves in my son's room.

The Christmas sets get packed away with the Christmas decorations.

This is the issue I have with some of the really cool big sets - I love how they look but tougher to play with consistently (vs. like random lego city stuff).

This one at least has some minifigs and is interactive a bit but like the titanic and the big cars and the bonsai tree - look so freaking cool but I don't have enough space to just display. I've just stuck with sets that I think the build looks cool AND deliver more playability.

IMHO "ideas" sets like this are adult sets. I wouldn't even let my kids play with a set like this (if I had kids); I'd put it on display. There are plenty of sets that are for kids; I don't think sets like this and sets like "pirates of barracuda bay" for for them.

They aren't white, they have the same yellow skin tone they have always had. Lego has stated that the yellow skin tone is a race neutral skin tone.

And have you been on the lego website lately? It is diversity overload, give me a break that we have everything!
