most cables are, and the naming sucks. usb 3.0 is same speed, i think it is 3.1 gen2 that is the faster, or some stupid crap.
Not exactly. The market is definitely saturated with similar USB 2.0 cables. They're also typically labeled as charging cables or charge and sync cables.
However, even the gen 1 cables are capable of an order of magnitude higher speed at 5Gbps (vs 480 Mbps for the USB 2.0 variety). Gen 2 cables do increase the rate further to 10 Gbos.

Good luck!

Thanks for the clarification to my post. I got confused by the whole 3.0 = 3.1 gen 1 and misremembered which ones were identical.

Not a problem: USB 3.0 labeling is just an exercise in how to do it wrong these days (don't forget to roll in a conversation about Thunderbolt to add bonus confusion!). For most users the power rating of the cable is the primary interest, with the data rates supported being a value-add. If not specifically shopping for data transfer cables, I'd certainly recommend shopping cables that way (sort of: while you're buying a cable for USB-C power, why not consider one that would be a decent data cable also, if not a power cable that could be used across multiple device types).
