Just FYI the newer Hero 10 is $350 from GoPro with a free year of GoPro Subscription (which includes accidental damage replacement).

Gopro subscription also means discounts on accessories, so if you don't need the extras from the Costco bundle (ie you have a tripod from previous gen GoPro), you can use the GoPro sub to buy discounted batteries

I'm confused -- the GoPro main page has that price ($350), but when you click on the link to go to the deal, it has the price listed at $494.98. That's what it shows for me at least.

I figured it out -- I added the "subscribe to our email list and save 10% on your next order" discount code. The price was adjusted when I added that. What a crappy user interface.

Last year Costco had the Hero 8 Black for $240 just before Christmas. Hoping we see the price drop some more before Christmas day.
I was looking at getting one of these I could understand them clearing out the 8s for cheap not sure the reasoning is there on the 9. Tbh surprised they're discounting the 10 so much, but I've heard complaints about 4k/5.3k video just turning it into a hot stone.

I got a great deal on a 7 Black bundle a few months ago and it's honestly my biggest tech purchase regret of my life. Just be sure if you WANT an action cam that you have a real, solid need for one on a regular basis. I did some offroading videos, a few good hikes, a couple rollercoasters. It has some cool aspects, but I found myself using my phone much more frequently (unless durability was absolutely crucial). The menu and interface for GoPro is like a Blackberry from 15 years ago, or a first-generation car touchscreen. Not responsive and not intuitive, and it chews through batteries insanely fast. Swapping batteries is not super easy and definitely messes with video continuity (and your activity!). I'm kind of shocked these took off in the first place, since the market for them seems tiny, but they're selling like crazy. Maybe it's like SUVs, where 95% of buyers are aspiring to something more than actually doing it.

Hard to say all this to my wife, who bought it for me, so I'm telling strangers on the Internet. Big Grin

black action camera? the hell does that mean?
In case no one else has said it for you, it's a model scheme GoPro has been using for years. The Black edition is the best model. They have silver and white models. Those models are the low end stripped down models. So if your needing a GoPro, go for black. But also the number has to do with the generation. And not all the newer ones are best. Lots of people love the hero 7 but don't like the 8. 9 looks really good because of the front lcd screen so you can see what your recording.

I am kind of at the similar stand point. Used to have one for my drone and only ever used it for that. Now drones come with great cameras as is. Always seemed like the GoPro was a bit high in price for what it does for my needs. I would use it occasionally like on vacation or something. Seems like some of those cheaper knockoffs on Amazon might serve the purpose based on reviews.

I picked up the 8 about a 2 weeks ago from Walmart for a trip to Mexico last week. I paid $250 with 2 extra batteries and an external dual charger. I haven't decided if I'm keeping it or not.

Just so people know, I did this with my AMEX Gold and people are still buying super old GoPro 5s on eBay for like $130. So I effectively got a new GoPro 10 for $190. Used it this week and SUPER happy with the new mobilization software. Way less shaky than the GoPro 5 and below. Not sure how it compares to GoPro 9 though. If you're looking for a GoPro upgrade like me, which I also use a lot for great travel videos, the $40 off w/AMEX offers + selling an old GoPro is way better than this deal for a GoPro 9 at Costco. 64 GB microSD cards and GoPro accessories are very cheap online/not worth getting a bundle IMHO

If you have to wonder whether you'd use it, you probably don't want it. I use mine regularly for mountain biking, it's not something you can use a phone for and lower quality doesn't cut it.
