Someone did post in the Samsung flip thread that they did this for Samsung flip and didn't have to pay anything to T mobile at all since the phone was already unlocked and purchased outright.

The response from the other thread is pasted below

I paid $0 to cancel a never-activated line. When you pick up the phone from bestbuy do not put that sim inside. Put any other sim in. When you call T-Mobile, if you never jotted down the never activated Ph #, you can use the SIM card it came with to look up the never activated account to be able to cancel . It's $0 cause the line was never activated and because you bought unlocked outright
For everyone looking for how to finesess this deal:

1. Follow steps as mentioned in Wiki (if you get that error, its most likely a authentication error where TMO can't verify your credentials i.e. social w/ ID) you can try doing this in person at a BB store. I was getting this error despite checking everything 15x, finally tried doing it on the mobile BB site and it worked.
2. Do not insert your SIM into the phone. When you sign up online, as you are about to check out, you'll have to agree with the tmobile terms and conditions.. THIS IS WHERE YOUR PHONE NUMBER IS LISTED. WRITE IT DOWN OR SCREENSHOT.
3. Call 1 800 T MOBILE, tell CS agent that you wish to cancel the line (you can make up whatever excuse you want)
4. If they mention "are you returning a device to the store?" say NO. There is no device associated with your new line/account.
5. They'll cancel your account effective immediately.
6. The phone is FACTORY UNLOCKED, can be used with any compatible provider.

I was able to do this process for 2 phones. $400+tax for a FACTORY UNLOCKED S21 5G is a great deal imo.
why did this get downvoted to oblivion. isn't it a super good deal? you're not locked into tmobile.. just cancel the first day and you essentially get an S21 for $400? cheapest mint condition on swappa is like $680

if the phone is not available in store, are they still able to trade in first and then order it for store pick up or sent to your home? it seems like you have to insist on trading in first and get them to show you the higher trade in value before starting the tmobile credit check process.

OnePlus 8 at $300 is a tough sell now because it was launched in April 2020 and it came with Android 10. $250 is more reasonable. It won't get many more updates in the future. Samsung phones get a ton of updates. Even the cheap budget phones are getting 4 years of updates. OnePlus Nord line is only 1 system update which is understandable to me but tough to compete with Samsung and Apple updates. Samsung have surpassed Pixel with updates in my opinion as Pixel A line gets 3 years. I got a t-mobile samsung A71 5G unlocked phone and I get a ton of updates. I am shocked how good it is with the updates. I don't even use t-mobile carrier.... I say that as I am more of a Pixel fan too.

OnePlus has actually declined when it comes to updates now.

"OnePlus used to be one of the best when it came to software updates, now you've got updates arriving a year late."

You dont need official update for oneplus, plenty of custom you can choose, flip side. US Samsung you have to always stick with offical, Samsung can mess up your phone with new update ..unlock boatloads almost impossible

Seems that the S21 was a downgrade from the S20. Hopefully S22 will be better than both...

I still can't get past the "the error which is fixed now" I tried BB mobile and app, chrome. Any other suggestions?

Also, I see a lot of people calling tmobile to cancel. Simple, time saving option as many suggested is port out which automatically cancels. No need to deal with waits, convincing reps and calling again to confirm. All this just hogging up their lines for no reason.

Best way out is always to port. People call cuz they don't even know their phone, account or pin number. But best to go under the radar is to prepare for an extra sin and port out!
