Someone did post in the Samsung flip thread that they did this for Samsung flip and didn't have to pay anything to T mobile at all since the phone was already unlocked and purchased outright.

The response from the other thread is pasted below

I paid $0 to cancel a never-activated line. When you pick up the phone from bestbuy do not put that sim inside. Put any other sim in. When you call T-Mobile, if you never jotted down the never activated Ph #, you can use the SIM card it came with to look up the never activated account to be able to cancel . It's $0 cause the line was never activated and because you bought unlocked outright

For everyone looking for how to finesess this deal:

1. Follow steps as mentioned in Wiki (if you get that error, its most likely a authentication error where TMO can't verify your credentials i.e. social w/ ID) you can try doing this in person at a BB store. I was getting this error despite checking everything 15x, finally tried doing it on the mobile BB site and it worked.
2. Do not insert your SIM into the phone. When you sign up online, as you are about to check out, you'll have to agree with the tmobile terms and conditions.. THIS IS WHERE YOUR PHONE NUMBER IS LISTED. WRITE IT DOWN OR SCREENSHOT.
3. Call 1 800 T MOBILE, tell CS agent that you wish to cancel the line (you can make up whatever excuse you want)
4. If they mention "are you returning a device to the store?" say NO. There is no device associated with your new line/account.
5. They'll cancel your account effective immediately.
6. The phone is FACTORY UNLOCKED, can be used with any compatible provider.

I was able to do this process for 2 phones. $400+tax for a FACTORY UNLOCKED S21 5G is a great deal imo.

why did this get downvoted to oblivion. isn't it a super good deal? you're not locked into tmobile.. just cancel the first day and you essentially get an S21 for $400? cheapest mint condition on swappa is like $680

I also received a "This is your final bill" for ~$5 even though I cancelled immediately without using the account or even the sim card. Should I just pay up and be happy? Or call and try getting it cancelled/waived? If I don't pay by due date 1/17/2022, will I get another final bill, maybe for $0? What have you guys who received a ~$5 bill done?
Co-ask the same question. Purchased the phone on Dec 26th and cancelled the service on the same day. At the time of the cancellation, the Rep said since the service is removed on the same day the sim card was activated there will be no charge. Received a T-Mobile bill $4.88 today saying it is the final bill.

Detailed Charges
Mid-Cycle Charges Dec 26- Dec 26 $1.50
T-Mobile fees & charges $3.18
Government taxes & fees $0.20

For those who ran into similar situation, was it as simple as just paying it off through "t-mobile.com/guestpay" printed on top of the bill?

I'd imagine so, it's what I just did using my account # at the top of the bill.

My unlocoked S21 I got from bestbuy, after trade in with a brand new iphone SE, died on the 12th day. It just turned off on its own with about 70% battery, and would not turn back on no matter how many times I tried force reboot (vol-down+power) button combo + wired/wireless charging. I went to the same bestbuy store, but the mobile team there would not give me a new replacement S21 saying the promo I got was over, and I'd have to shell out about $400 more for a replacement/exchange for the defective phone, or get refunded what I paid +$200 for iphone se trade-in-value. A manager happened to drop by and corrected the guy telling him for exchange I don't have to pay anything, as long as it's within the 14 days return period. Manager left and the guy asks me for the t-mobile activated phone number (which they didn't give me when I bought the UNLOCKED phone and I cancelled the service a week later, to use on MetroPCS. Now he insists, he cannot give me an exchange since there's no t-mobile service/number which I used to activate the unlocked phone during purchase. Tells me to go to Samsung and see if they can give me a new replacement. And he tells me today is the last (13th) day for returns. He sounded like he just did not want to help or give me an exchange. I thanked him and went to two different stores, but they were out of stock, but the person helping me were really nice; telling me they'd have gladly provided me an exchange/replacement if they had in stock. I even went to a Samsung repair center in the city, really nice people there. They tell me they can only repair (same day or the next day) but not provide a replacement. So, I head back to a nearby bestbuy and return the phone, getting back $424 ($10 less than what I paid).

Btw, the dead phone had all my emails and credit cards saved to google pay, amazon app and other apps (phone locked with pin+fingerprint+face recogniton). Worried if any/all of those data could get compromised. Any ideas? did anyone have similar experiences? I'm thinking of changing my google, hotmail and amazon passwords to mitigate any such potential problems.

Not sure about why phone died but you can wipe that phone using google 'find my phone' service.

Why you didn't get samsung fix? It will still have full warranty anyway?

Or you could have create another tmo account (from 20$ nodata/plan) to get pass the bestbuy issue!

I had forgotten about google's 'find my phone' service. Just now sent a command to "Erase Device". Hopefully it may work if the phone ever comes back online". Thank you.

I didn't realize bestbuy's 14 day return ends at the end of the 13th day, or so was I told by bestbuy customer service. The phone died on 12th day and I went to bestbuy for exchange on the 13th day, wasting almost 4 hours in two local stores, and then an hour at Samsung repair center in the city. By the time I called bestbuy customer service and was informed of the deadline, I only had about an hour before bestbuy stores closed. I figured if I return and get the full $435 back, I may as well buy Visible's S21 for $480+taxes with $200 gift card, only to realize during return that the refund would only be in bestbuy gift card form, which will probably remain unused for a long time.

I would probably have also been ok with Samsung's repair, but Visible's S21 deal seemed attractive, and I had an hour to decide (creating another tmo account didn't come to mind). So, in the heat of the moment, just went with the return. Now, when I try to buy another S21 or Pixel 6 with bestbuy (to utilize that bestbuy gift card) and activate online, it basically fails at tmobile account creation-credit check page with "Please try again we had an issue, but it should be fixed now.". Looks like bestbuy+tmobile activation doesn't allow second phone purchase (maybe for someone who has returned device + cancelled service recently).

Ah, so you are just going for normal return due to visible offer. Its unfortunate to happen at the end of 14th day.

Just got a $90 bill in the mail for the first month of service, going to have to call T-Mobile as I was assured I would be charged nothing for cancelling immediately.
