I bought 2 ALUs, my ALU 1.1 deck stopped working, so I swapped out for my LGP and am waiting on AtGames to send me the invoice for a new CTR board.

Are we... like, cosmic twins?

Are you copying me?
No, you're copying me!
No, you're copying me!

I also now waiting for them to send me the invoice for a new CTR board. $20 for the board isn't too bad, but the $20 for shipping is kind of insane (especially when I compare it to the $100 I paid for the LGP during that WalMart deal).

The warranty on these is 30 days for a reason. They have unstable firmware and substandard hardware. They are ok but just go in eyes open. This is not a high quality product and your odds of it just not working are high. Mine lasted 45 days. They told me return it to the retailer, so no wonder that retailers want them gone

That's about half-true. I was no fan of their PCB and ecosystem, but the joysticks and buttons are pretty good - not cheap at all. I also really like their stock switches - just the right weight for me personally. If someone is handy and into arcade sticks there's no reason to shy away from this.
There are definitely some quality issues, but from my experience, those exist in pretty much all of these arcade emulation systems (both AtGames and Arcade1up). The 30-day policy is a warning sign because there is a reasonable chance you'll have something stop working after 30 days.

On the good side, you will typically be able to get a replacement part to get things working again, though possibly not as quickly as you'd like.

On the negative side, you'll have to do the repairs yourself, removing wiring harnesses, replacing PCBs, etc. So if you aren't comfortable doing those types of repairs, you may be out of luck.

The user-friendliness of the ALU, ALP and LGP/M is somewhere between a normal consumer device that requires no technical skills at all and a DIY kit where you build and assemble everything yourself.

Personally, I like the way AtGames has provided APIs for adding your own games along with selling additional games you can buy and download (at least the pinball tables). Once you've learned how to setup your flash drive with SaUCE, you can do the same thing for your ALU, LGP and ALU. Much easier (in my opinion) than learning how to get RetroPie or some other emulator working in a custom-built cabinet.

I got two of the Pro versions when they were $99 at Walmart and added the 3 year warranty for $12.

I think they're pretty good, but I'm not as into it as some of you folks are. The joysticks and buttons feel fine to me-I have a halfway decent fight stick and these controls are not quite as good but they're alright. This is the fight stick I have:

https://www.amazon.com/Street-Fig...th=1&psc=1

I bought this cheap standing desk to serve as the stand for them rather than spending $150-$200 for a custom fit wooden one

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0...asin_title

I'm running it with an old 65" TV. I haven't tried to hook up both controllers to a single puck for 4 player action. I'm hoping that will work.

Overall it's a good deal at $99, and probably a decent deal at $137. Remember that I'm a very casual retro gamer, but reliving the arcade nostalgia IS kind of fun.

Is there an easy way to add a spinner to these? Easy as in drilling a hole, mounting a spinner, and plugging it into some adapter or the unit itself.

I just bought the Tempest cabinet but would rather have this if I can add the spinner.
(I love me some Tempest if you can't tell).
I'd stick with the Tempest cab assuming you got yesterday's deal (I missed out). Should be a better overall experience, and if not, you got it cheap enough that should be easy to sell.

there is so many options and choices out there, its very confusing for a newbie.

I finally got an email response yesterday from a guy saying they'd send an invoice soon. Still waiting, but at least they replied after several emails. I really like the spinners and built a wheel-accessory (from a Wii wheel) for the driving games. Offroad and SuperSprint are amazing with a free-spinning wheel.

For those on the fence, these systems are crazy easy to add games. Download the 30-50 games you remember playing at arcades from the archive (UCE files), then ignore all the firmware updates and stuff and just plug them into any USB port and use the built-in "AddOn" feature. SO easy.

I had 2 from when Walmart was clearancing out. One had the wifi go bad within 60 days and one had the who le puck brick after a firmware update within 45 days.

When they were working they were a little sluggish but fun. The controls themselves are fine, my complaint has been with the puck and software.

I have the ALU Arcade, the Gamer Pro, and the Gamer.

The Arcade I LOOOOOOVE....it's so good. I have the LED marquee which makes it looks super awesome while playing games or in attract mode.

The Gamer control decks with the TV connected pucks though I cannot recommend as much. The biggest problem for me is the LAG. Maybe it's my AV receiver or TV adding some lag, but overall I think it's the bluetooth connection causing it. It's too much lag for many of these old arcade games that require precise timing and reflexes. Tried playing Pacman on it, and making the last second moves simply was not possible.

I might be able to find some settings on the TV to help this (game mode maybe?) but with all TV's being different, you might have the same experience as me. Not the best sadly.
