so you need autonomous driving/lane keeping aid and breaking features here $398?

i own this and i am using for a intra neighborhood trails and sidewalks (2000acres community)
its very useful. dont expect mountain biking with this but great for quick 20mins-40mins rides . range is very decent for the price point. the only drawback i see is the seating (its hard) no cushion .bought something from amazon to fix for 10$.

I'll be extremely grateful if you show me an ebike that isnt just pedal assist available to buy for most people (meaning, not living in San Diego) for $400. Thanks in advance!

Just bought this for my wife. Very solid bike, really makes me wonder why I spent over 4x as much for mine when the overall use case for neighborhood riding isn't much different.

I kind of want to build my own cheap ebike, using bunch of recycled laptop batteries , and some fat wheel tires motor Hubs, and a 750 watt motor.
I'm guessing a 50 or 60 mile range would suffice, to take it outside of town , and when I go strolling down the coast.
I would probably use a bunch of cable ties to strap everything together and a little bit of duct tape so it looks like crap so no one would steal it. I would like to leave this change outside the movie theater without getting stolen.
I can also add another twenty miles to that with physical peddaling.

Sounds great. And if the duct tape doesn't deter thieves, the smoldering sizzling sound and intense heat from the laptop batteries shorting out surely will!

If you live in a hilly area, like South OC, you need to be very mindful of motor watts and battery life. If you're on the boardwalk in SD, yeah, most eBikes will go forever.

I've had this bike for almost a year and have no regrets. It is able to make it up a steep hill to my house from the bike path at the beach in SoCal with no problem. True, the seat was hard but it was easily replaced, and the icing on the cake was a nice black basket for the front that looks like it is OEM. I also bought a good lock and a few other odds and ends to keep the total cost, including tax, to under $500 total. I plan to use it for many years to come and do not feel that I will outgrow it in the near future.

As a bigger guy, I bought the Men's, 29" Wheels, Black, Disc Brakes, 7 speed version. Can't wait!

I primarily wanted the disk brakes for better safety.

The 29er for $598 is crazy good. Not bad looking either IMO. Objectively the only true con is the weight, but other than apartment dwellers on the second floor that use stairs, this shouldn't really deter anyone.
