so you need autonomous driving/lane keeping aid and breaking features here $398?

i own this and i am using for a intra neighborhood trails and sidewalks (2000acres community)
its very useful. dont expect mountain biking with this but great for quick 20mins-40mins rides . range is very decent for the price point. the only drawback i see is the seating (its hard) no cushion .bought something from amazon to fix for 10$.

I'll be extremely grateful if you show me an ebike that isnt just pedal assist available to buy for most people (meaning, not living in San Diego) for $400. Thanks in advance!

I bought one on Black Friday and the sensor below the bike fried so the electric feature stopped working. Got a replacement and the right pedal stripped and fell out so 2 bikes broke within 3 weeks. Not great.

In China, people with low income use electric moped to commute. But hardly see these e-bikes on the streets. Here in the US, do people buy e-bike to commute? Since they defeat the purpose of physical exercise and are not refined mountain bikes or road bikes by any standards, what is the purpose for these e-bikes?

These models are pedal assist only so they don't remove exercise. Some exercise is better than none?

My guess the purpose of these are for first time casual bicyclist in inner city environments, or second for kids / family members.

As a bigger guy, I bought the Men's, 29" Wheels, Black, Disc Brakes, 7 speed version. Can't wait!

I primarily wanted the disk brakes for better safety.
Disc brakes aren't safer than maintained center pull brakes. They function the same way. They just weigh more. The new version of the these bikes no longer come with Shimano components. The components are now even cheaper

They aren't "center pull" they are V brakes.

I returned my two. It sucks the battery can't hold charge and loose power quickly. It came with front wheel axle nuts missing and I have to order another set on Amazon.

Really shouldn't be riding a bike on sidewalks. Pedestrian can seriously get hurt.

I asked the same thing and I'm from the states but live in a city. One person told me they travel 48mins a day on their ebike to and from because there's no public transportation and it's better for the environment. While I agree with the first part, I see no reason why they can't just buy a normal bike, get better exercise, at a fraction of the cost, and travel time will be the same. People just getting them for tax credits.

Bought the commuter one back in November when it was this price and I'm really happy with it. Were there a couple screws loose? Yes. Literally, one that was holding the rear fender fell off and I had to replace it, but other than that? Pretty damn good.

Motor kicks in after about half a rotation of the pedal and it jumps forward. Brakes and tires need to be re-touched every so often (seemingly more than a regular old bike might). It's great for small errands like dropping something off at the post office, or going over to a friend's place a mile away when you don't want to lose your parking spot. Very much looking forward to spring and using it more.

For the 'exercise enthusiasts' posting, if you're commuting to work, you don't really want to be showing up to work drenched in sweat. A pedal-assist is a nice, inexpensive alternative to still getting a little bit of a workout, but without working out too much on your daily ride there. If you really want, you can simply not turn on the motor and use it as a regular bike, too.

My biggest drawback keeping me from buying a pair of these is the 56# weight and the question that if this model has a 250w motor and a 1 hour runtime, what is the aH of the battery? Can't find these specs anywhere.

Not a bad deal. I wonder though what you do when the batteries start to go bad. I do wonder how much a new battery costs. I guess you could salvage some 18600's and replace the bad cells if you are handy. Also, something to keep in mind, I've bought two bikes from walmart and they are a pretty good value, but the rims will not be balanced at all. You will have to adjust the spokes with a spoke wrench before you can practically use the bike. both my bikes from walmart were so badly balanced they would drag on the brakes. You can get a spoke wrench from amazon for probably $5.

You don't see why someone would not want to travel 48min everyday on a regular bike? Boy must you be fit!

I made this same argument last ebike deal and got attacked. I don't get it either. This ebike weighs 50+lbs but most modern bikes weigh sub 20#'s.
