Seeing mixed reviews on this expansion. One big complaint is that it adds a mechanic that can easily punish players that aren't doing well already. And it adds a lot of complexity, apparently. I love Catan but partly for its simplicity. Think I'll pass on this one. Thanks anyway, OP.

Seafarers is great, btw. Feels like it should've been part of the base game from the start, honestly. Makes sheep actually valuable!

I always liked this expansion better than seafarers, but that's just me.

The hardcore fans LOVE C&K because it does add quite a bit of depth. But I agree, I think it's a little clunky, cumbersome, and not fun to explain to someone that hasn't played that version. It's good to own but definitely not the one I reach for often.

Have seafarers and it's fun but C&K adds a good complexity as well as reducing variance in terms of choosing your starting positions. It also opens up the variety of ways to win (defending, metropolises, merchant)

This is an evil expansion. If you want to see fights and ruined friendships, by all means buy this. I had a grown woman scream and walk out the front door of my apartment after she went from almost winning to having another player liquidate her completely. This expansion literally ruins Catan and ruins marriages/relationships/friendships. I sold my copy to a USC grad student and when I handed it to him, I looked him in the eyes and said, "you realize I am giving you the VHS tape from The Ring right now. I'm putting a curse on you."

Seafarers is the best expansion IMO.
