I actually looked at both of these the past few days as I was in the market and went with the Express 4K+ for $24 because it supports dual band WiFi. The premiere does not, according to Roku's website. I prefer my streaming devices to be on my 5GHz network. They always have issues on 2.4GHz. Other than that they seem mostly the same.

Personally, I would say yes. Roku is agnostic, meaning you get a greater variety of apps/channels than FireTV Stick which limits you to Amazon approved apps, although I believe you can side load others.

Definitely spend a few dollars more and get the Express 4k+ for $24 instead. You'll be happier with the volume controls.

Great if you need something really basic. Bought for my dad and he's not very tech savvy, really only uses Pluto and one other channel and wouldn't care about resolution. Haven't heard dad complain about it and I honestly don't expect much from it for the price.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but no volume control on this. That's a deal breaker for me.

Includes free 30 days Fubo. Worth it for me. I'll cancel Hulu for January and get all the bowl and and NFL games free.

Thanks OP, was just looking for a replacement for old gen stick that got so sluggish lately, plus had an expiring rewards cert to sweeten the deal even more.

In my experience yes. I bought two 4K Amazon Firesticks, one for my elderly parents and one for myself. Had lots of problems with streaming services (Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video) freezing and buffering all the time. Actually Amazon Prime Video was the worst, it would go out of audio sync a lot too. My parents and I live in separate households so it wasn't just a problem with the internet connection.

I decided to replace the Firesticks with ROKU basic ones and all the streaming problems disappeared! My parents and I are very happy with the ROKU's!

We've been using them now for over 6 months without any problems.

Thanks OP! Got one for my Dad - hoping to take advantage of the Airplay support. Much cheaper than getting an Apple TV.

Correct .... Also doesn't have a power button either to turn off your tv. Both the volume controls and power button to me are worth it. Let's me completely control the setup with one remote.

This is so much better to use for the Spectrum TV app than the slow Spectrum cable boxes.

This is what I used to love about Roku but they've shifted their profit focus to monetizing various channels (both theirs and others'). If a service doesn't want to give Roku a cut of subscriber fees, they might pull an app from the platform.

This is what happened to Spectrum, HBO Max, and Peacock at various points over the last year. No money for Roku, no app.

All three apps have returned, and Roku still does have the largest selection of apps, but they've definitely pivoted from "dumb streaming box that has all the apps" to "how can we squeeze every dollar out of this as a 'service'" over the past few years.

I still haven't found a better solution yet. I have been using Chromecast With Google TV the last year but I'm not thrilled with that either. If Android expands their app support, they'll probably win out.

I am assuming a micro USB OTG adapter to use a flash drive to play local video files won't work with this model?
