Amazing price. But these are trash right? I know brushless is good but isn't the name not what it was? Like slightly above "tools around the house for homeowner projects" or is this closer to contractor grade tools?

I would say that if you are not a contractor, these tools should be good enough for you.

Made by Dewalt, these are pretty much in between Dewalt and Black & Decker as far as quality goes.

Although I recently switched over to Dewalt, I have predominantly purchased Craftsman power tools (corded and cordless) for the last 25+ years. II am not a pro, just an around-the-house handyman, but I have never had a Craftsman power tool fail on me.

I went for Dewalt not because of ruggedness, but variety. I want cordless everything on a single battery platform, and Dewalt makes that easy with their impressive ecosystem. I'm giving my duplicated Craftsman tools to my son-in-law, cause they still work great, and he is just starting to build his tool collection.

So I agree with ihateu3, unless you are a professional contractor--or you abuse tools--I think Craftsman will last as long or longer than you need them to. Yes, they are maybe not quite as good as the "pro" lines from Dewalt, Milwaukee, or Makita, but I would still choose Craftsman over any other standard or "house" brand, especially with the deals (like this) that you can get sometimes.

This guy tears the down the tools . At about the 13:00 mark he's showing the DeWalt and Craftsman guts side-by-side and they're identical. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h...Tm8&t=119s

And here's another showing the Craftsman seeming to be a clone of the DeWalt 887: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C...ROs&t=258s

SBD just made sure the batteries Weren't interchangable.

$299 for me too - I was just in our local store (zip 62704) a couple hours ago. There is another 4-tool kit for $88 on clearance but it doesn't come with any batteries, charger, or soft case. This kit posted was still $299 and the other kit was on sale, so I'm hoping the OP was looking at the right tag.

I did pick up the brushless grinder for $55 Smilie

The battery compability is now a tool for market segmentation and crossover barrier. It is not about any technical innovation.

Prices are all over the place and very YMMV, just like the other post already about this.

BTW, got mine a couple days ago for $74.87. same store is back to $299.99 now.
