I mean since he's not a us citizen. Then he's a green card holder. If so, it won't matter. He can renew online.

As a travel document, it is only valid for up to 10 years, but it has very little utility as a travel document.
I think the value of the card is as a placeholder to make obtaining a full passport easier down the road.

Don't they take walk-ins at USPS?
Yeah but I wish it had been earlier. Maybe I just missed it. While I do need new passports for the family, this is too short notice. Gotta get pictures taken, then the post offices are super busy around this time of the year. Not a quick thing with young kids. I guess we'll just have to pay the higher fee next year...
A passport doesn't mean you're a citizen. In fact, non-citizen US nationals can apply for these, too.
Regardless, applying for citizenship (provided you're eligible) is a whole lot more expensive.
