I submitted the online application on the 24th and mailed it same-day with USPS Priority. It arrived on the 27th and my bank account shows the check was cashed on 12/30.
One tip for those unaware, when you generate a label online with USPS, that's not a postmark in any way, tracking will simply show that the label was "created". Even dropping it off at the Post Office the same day will not guarantee a postmark for that day, the reason being the staff may or may not scan in the package that day when you simply drop it off (it may not get scanned in until it ends up in the distribution hub or even until it arrives at the destination city).
The surefire way is to unfortunately wait in line and ask the clerk to scan in the package and get a receipt. If you do that, tracking will show "in possession" which makes a huge difference if you have an important package. Especially if you purchased insurance on it. USPS will not reimburse your lost insured package if the status only shows your label was "created".
With all that said, USPS gives Priority Mail more tracking scans (Express gets the most number of updates), if you have a Parcel Post or First Class Mail package, the USPS will try and save money by giving it less scans, which means having that initial scan at the Post Office that much more importance.
Finally, use PirateShip instead of the USPS website to save on rates.

Second Pirate Ship. Excellent platform. I use it to ship camera gear and other online sales. They do UPS now too.
Is pirate ship subscription based service like monthly fee?
It's not as aggressive as the rate eBay gives you for shipping with them, but eBay gets that back and more by charging you ever-increasing seller fees.

I don't think you can use ebay shipping services if the item is not a sold eBay auction item. Maybe there is a way?

Like two or three years ago, I marked an cheap, old, sold listing that was delivered and use that listing to send something to a family member. At that time, it was significantly cheaper to use eBay to ship with UPS so I took the chance. Wouldn't advise doing that ever again. haha
