SlickdealsForumsDeal TalkSigma Lenses: 45mm f/2.8 DG DN for Sony E $249M 28mm f/1.4 Art $739, 30mm f/1.4 Nikon $319, 40mm f/1.4 Sony E $789 & Much More at Adorama
You have what's called an APS-C or crop sensor. The sensor is physically smaller than that of a full frame camera or 35mm film camera. To get the equivalent focal length, multiply the focal length by 1.5x times. The 30mm 1.4 would be equivalent to a 45mm on you camera. That's pretty close to to your standard lens cameras used to come with and that portraits have been taken with for nearly a century. That would be my recommendation out of this list. It would be a nice do-it-all lens as well.
No need to call kit lenses a piece of crap. They've gotten quite good over the years. Do I still wish I would have got a nifty fifty instead of a zoom kit lens with my first DSLR? Sure but there's also days I'd take a kit super zoom lens over my expensive f/2.8 glass for certain types of professional work.

The 18-135mm is not a Kit Lens (retails for ~$650 by itself) - it's the 16-35mm that's usually thrown in the box (which was one of the most atrocious lens I've ever used on my previous A6000....the lens of my Canon G9X point-and-shoot produces way sharper images). That 18-135mm he said he received with the camera was perhaps something that the retailer bundled for a small discount, or he bought the gear used from someone.
I was going to resist, but then I got an email from Capital One Shopping offering me 30% cashback on this, so I ended up buying the Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS Contemporary Lens for Sony E
any comments on the 45mm prime? So cheap so I'm reluctant
For $250 it's awesome! Extremely well built lens, very small to take with you and won't get you kicked out of places because you can pass for a point and shoot! Worth the price at $250, not so much at $450 though.

I've been wondering about this myself. So the 30mm f1.4 is built for aps-c cameras. Does that still mean you need to multiply it by 1.5? I thought if a lens is only made for aps-c then it will get the 30mm focal length.
fark!!! I just bought this lens on Adorama Black Friday Sale on 11/26 for $299. I wonder if they will give me back the difference?
Try call them ask. They may give you store credit. I did price adjustment. But the price drop with in one week. The item was ship out. I was not received. So I can reject receive.

Might as well get the samyang 45 1.8. Not sure why anyone wants a 2.8 stand prime.
18-135mm is pretty good lens
