Apparently it's 2400MBps read and 1750MBps write.
For $8 more they have the newer one that can go 3500MBps read and 2300MBps read.

So get a USB 3.x nvme caddy. Even better if you can go with thunderbolt.

Tru dat, but keep in mind that the caddy is a longer term investment - and you can swap a games library between computers and a laptop if you wanted to.

For $10 more you mean. $50 for the SN570.

But if you're going to spend $50, you should get the 970 Evo Plus, which is the class of the PCIe 3.0x4 drives - B&H still selling it for $50, which is a heck of a deal:

https://slickdeals.net/f/15529552-500gb-samsung-970-evo-plus-pcie-nvme-m-2-solid-state-drive-50-free-shipping

There's even an argument for the Intel 670p for $5 more than the SN550 at B&H - it's faster than the SN550, has DRAM and a manufacturer that has never been caught nerfing the components. Against that, the 670p is QLC, albeit what's generally regarded as the best QLC in the business:

Nerfing of the SN550:

Yes - referred to by some as nerfing. See link above.

Yes. WD basically said, "You caught us. We won't do this in the future, but we're not going to stop doing this with products we already pulled a bait and switch on because we like how much money it's making us."

This is pretty much the standard price on Amazon. The newer SN570 is also the same price as amazon's standard price for the past few weeks.

I ordered 2 of these (from Lenovo.com, $2 cheaper and free shoprunner 2-day) before learning WD is swapping out cheaper parts. Unlike Newegg, who puts orders into shipping immediately so they can't be canceled, Lenovo let me cancel the order.
Yeah, that's right, cheapest price for this drive I've ever seen was the Lenovo deal, $38.50, about two-three weeks ago.
