Not true if you sign into the website and do the phone change yourself.
This only works if you are changing to a TMobile or Metro phone. If you try a different carrier model or unlocked model it won't let you.

FYI, if you use Mint or any other T-mobile MVNO currently or within the past 180 days, you won't qualify for the $25/month price.
How would they know tho? Do they make you sign a 2yr contract and lock service to an IMEI?

I've never used Metro before but currently paying TMobile Prepaid $25 for 5gb. This seems like the better deal if it can give me consistent service in NYC.

In store deals makes its kinda hard and annoying but good luck who wanna go to store
Everything they can do instore could be done online. If cricket, boost and other mvno's can do it, they could too. They have to know the majority of us avoid Metro sign up promos because of in store shenanigans.. even at a corporate store.

I avoid these mofos altogether. learned my lesson the hard way

Metro is TMobile (Not MVNO) so that's even more clearcut. On Mint, your number is basically registered as a TMobile number. I have Mint and my voicemail and the network registration info on my phone is all TMobile.

They are talking about coming _to_ Metro for the $25 plan from these other TMo providers.

Wrong. I did it with an unlocked Redmi Note 8 Pro

This must be a recent change to allow any unlocked phones to be unlocked on their website then, because a year ago they still required it to be a T-Mobile or Metro phone to use their website and everyone else had to call in or go to a store. It's still dumb they require you to do any of this instead of just pop out the sim and put in the new phone like every other carrier though.

It looks like this doesn't stack with the iphone 13 discount on port-in because that says it requires you to sign up for the $60 plan?

I don't understand why they want to force you to go into a sleazy prepaid shop while we're still in a pandemic. Last time I went into one of those (cricket, they spent like two hours failing to port my number and I gave up) I got what I think were flea bites

The lack of hotspot stinks.
I had an MVNO that didn't allow tethering years ago and just used an Android app that masked it. Had no issues.

Is this better than ATT Prepaid assuming just on data speed?
My att is kind of spotty or slow in certain areas so how well does Metro do?
Check for T-Mobile coverage as the underlying network is T-mobile. Also, don't rely on network coverage map from any cellular service provider because their maps are almost always incorrect.

There are options between 0 and 100. They could have capped it at 5GB or something like that.
They may be erroneously or surreptitiously offering 10 GB of hotspot data, which isn't announced in the offer. A friend who switched says the MyMetro app says " 10 GB hotspot data". I can't bet and won't recommend betting on it as it may be an error

Not true. My friend switched from Mint and scored the deal

Totally agree. Their dealer stores rip you off with too many taxes, fees, unwanted device protection plans etc, and the moment anybody park near their corporate store, immediately the store security comes on to check you up and he will be standing behind you until you leave the store and their store workers are not friendly at all with take it or leave attitude. Metro's whole store experience makes you look like a thief and unwelcoming.
Not true. My friend said it was $25 at the store including the physical SIM card, and no pesky upwelling from the store employee.
