Amazon has Tramontina Professional 6-Piece Forged German Stainless Steel knife Set for $29.62. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...0DER&psc=1

The price is $35 at 7amPST/10amEST on 12/29/2021.

Sold and shipped by Amazon.

About this item
Set includes: 3-inch Peeling, 4-inch Paring, 5-inch Santoku, 7-inch Santoku, 7-inch Deba and 7-inch Nakiri
Forged, stain-free high carbon German steel
Full-tang construction feature 3-solid stainless rivets
Expertly sharpened, ice-hardened, hand-honed tapered blades

I just received this set. The knives are well packaged. They resemble the look and feel of solid German knives. The actual blade lengths are:
- 3-inch Peeling knife: 2 3/4"
- 4-inch Paring knife: 4"
- 5-inch Santoku: 5"
- 7-inch Santoku: 7"
- 7-inch Deba knife: 6 1/2" (double bevel, sharpened on both sides)
- 7-inch Nakiri: 6 7/8"

On the blade of each knife, it is stamped:
Stain-Free High-Carbon German Steel
Tramontina Professional
NSF
Made in Brazil

Tramontina Pro series are made of DIN 1.4110 steel heat treated approximately at 56 HRC - which is about the same HRC as Victorinox knives, a little softer than Henckels (57-58) and Wusthof (58-59). Based on my experience using a stamped Tramontina Pro-line knife for the last 6 years, the steel seems to be at a sweet spot of the trade-off between edge retention and easy sharpening for average home cookers.

In addition, there are 2 other Tramontina knife sets in Amazon worth mentioning. Both sold and shipped by Amazon. Made in Brazil. I am not sure if they are Pro series.

Tramontina Kitchen Knife Set Forged 3 Pc including 8" chefs knife, 6" utility knife, and 4" paring knife, current price $23.89 and has been slowly decreasing in the last few days. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...0DER&psc=1
(It was sold in Woot during Black Friday. If you bought it, please comment).

Tramontina Chef's Knife & Tong Set 3pc including 10" chefs knife, 8" chefs knife, and 15" BBQ tong, current price $14.22. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...0DER&psc=1
(Knives in this set are stamped, not forged).

This is cheaper than most decent-quality 6-piece steak knife sets, which has me a bit worried.

Low price makes me worried about the quality of the steel being used here despite it saying 'German steel'. The 3 knife set is forged and the set with the tongs is stamped. Price is not terrible. Maybe a good starter set for those that want to start practicing sharpening skills?

This deal is probably fine if you want to save money. You really only need a chef's knife and a paring knife for like 90% of home cooking. Once in a blue moon maybe a cleaver and a serated bread knife.
Might as well buy a quality chef's knife and a half decent paring knife. Of course this whole set costs less than either single knife so maybe worth a shot 🤷 ♂️

"the steel seems to be at a sweet spot of the trade-off between edge retention and easy sharpening for average home cookers."

This is always important. It's better to learn how to sharpen than pay extra for really premium, really hard (and brittle) steel that may hold an edge longer, but you will have to pay a pro to sharpen. Something like a Work Sharp Guided Field Sharpener [amazon.com] is a great investment @ $25-$30. I recommend this little sharpener so often I should get paid for my endorsement.

Handles look relatively comfortable. I like a tiny bit more rounded heel on my knives as I tend to roll on that part of the knife as I cut, but that's personal preference.

Our mission as slick dealers is to find slick deals. Automatically equating low price = poor quality is contrary to that mission, lol!

There's nothing that says Stainless on the images/knives. I think the description is a typo. No way at this price point does those Stain-Free High Carbon Steel not rust. I'm sure they cut, but will dull fast and rust if you don't treat them like normal High Carbon Steel should be.

I purchased the 2 knife Tramontina knife set from Woot around Thanksgiving. I believe it was only about $15.00 but I am not at all impressed with the quality. I'm already finding I have to sharpen them about every 2 uses. Obviously with the price I paid, probably shouldn't have expected much but so glad I didn't give them as a gift.

Appears some sets from Tramontina have 25 year warranties and some only have 90 days Couldn't find the info on their website for this set, but if it's only 90 days that may give a clue as to their quality.

Also price went up $1.10 in the last 10 min…

Thanks for sharing. Non pro-series Tramontina knives, including premium series, use much softer steel at 53 HRC.

This is not comment on the quality of these knives, however if their triply clad pots and pans are any indication, the knives are probably pretty good for the money

Their tri ply clad line like all clad only cheaper, and a favorite among cheapskate interwebz chiefs

From the paper coming in my knife box, this set has Lifetime warranty - "to be free from defects in material and workmanship for the lifetime of the original purchaser." The $3 stamped Tramontina paring knife I bought from Walmart a couple of weeks ago has 25-year warranty.

Their support office is located in Houston, TX.

The price is likely to increase from now on. I watched it falling from upper $30's in the last couple of weeks. Amazon may have an algorithm automatically increasing or decreasing the price based on viewing or purchasing volume.
