The red UCA222 is the newer version of the original UCA202 in white. The newer model has some additional software, though is reported to use a much cheaper chip. Some speculate that corners were cut that could affect performance.

EDIT: According to some folks over at audiosciencereview.com [audiosciencereview.com], both versions are using the same cheaper chip for the past few years. A handful of Amazon reviews state the same. Behringer seems to have two identical products. One is labeled the newer version that likely performs worse than the original due to a cheaper chip. Since the original had a good reputation, they kept it around. But they cut costs by swapping out the well regarded original chip with the same cheaper chip used in the new version.

From Amazon's product descriptions, here are the bundled software for both units.

UCA202

Behringer provides a heap of free software available via download, to let you get the most out of your UAC202 right out of the box.

KRISTAL Audio Engine
KRISTAL Audio Engine is a powerful multi-track recorder, audio sequencer and mixer--ideal for anyone getting started with recording, mixing and mastering digital audio.
Audacity
Audacity is an easy-to-use audio editor and recorder for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux operating systems.
energyXT2
This amazing DAW (digital audio workstation) makes it easy to manipulate your audio and MIDI files, and turn song ideas into stunning CD or web-ready recordings. energyXT2 includes built-in synthesizers, a drum machine, and internal multi-FX processor.

UCA222

Because you'll want to take full advantage of the UCA222's podcasting and recording potential we've included a massive software package including Audacity, Podifier, Juice, Podnova and Golden Ear. You're ready to go live on your Mac or PC computer right out of the box! You also get more than 100 virtual instruments and over 50 effects plug-ins, turning your computer into a complete home-based or mobile recording studio from input to output.

When you're ready to take your recording projects to the next level, XT Software's energyXT is just the trick. This amazing DAW (digital audio workstation) makes it easy to manipulate your audio and MIDI files, turning song ideas into stunning CD or web-ready recordings. energyXT includes its own multi-FX processor, built-in synthesizers and a drum machine, both of which can be accessed directly via an external controller (such as our UMA25S or UMX25) or programmed in step-write mode.

I did a little more digging into the differences between the UCA202 and UCA222. According to some folks over at audiosciencereview.com [audiosciencereview.com], both versions are using the same cheaper chip for the past few years. A handful of Amazon reviews state the same.

I'm no audio gear expert. But all this seems rather shady to me. But for the price, it's not worth grumbling about too much. But it's something to keep in mind when considering buying anything Behringer.

If I got any of that wrong, folks, please clarify.

Too complicated. And I'm a detailed person.

1. As to 16-bit then go to:
benchmarkmedia.com/blogs/application_notes/15121729-audio-myth-24-bit-audio-has-more-resolution-than-16-bit-audio

2. If you are buying another device (like Multi Effects pedal board) with output to computer input (like USB out) included then you may not need a DI like this.

3. If you're using a home studio then you can record different sources such as vocals, mic-ed analog and digital output instruments, amps and etc.. with one USB input device, one at a time in digital overlaid tracks.

It's when you require two inputs at the same time and with lower noise than a sound card then does this thing come in, on a budget.

It's about eliminating most noise.

I need something that can send PC audio to both a variable audio output controlled by PC volume and a fixed line output not controlled by PC volume, simultaneously. Can this do that?

My monitor speaker (Altec Lansing small speakers with big sub woofer) has two stereo inputs and volume control, bass and treble. So that's one way to have fixed out put on one line. I have comp/TV into one and strong multi FX pedal (w/BT in) into the other input. So I have one switch to practice electric guitar. Comp/TV sound not affected. Well maybe two switches if I turn one off.

An old stereo set with AUX and LINE [level] in would work also. Phono and MIC are different and often add noise.

What cable you use to connect guitar and mics to this?
(As this doesn't have xlr or 1/4")

You would need a separate mixer with XLR and 1/4" inputs to connect microphones and instruments. The stereo line-out of the mixer would connect to this device (red and white RCA connectors), then USB to your computer. Many newer mixers have USB built in. This device is used for connecting analog line-level equipment to your computer.

Thanks, I don't think this is what I'm looking for then. I'm already using amplified speakers with a volume control, but I want to use PC volume control to control their volume. I just want another line-out that's fixed and gets the same output, but not affected by PC volume setting. Seems like that might not be possible.

Possibly but this is their official Compat list. How are you liking it? I only did the free lesson but was impressed, particularly with the timing exercises.

https://support.yousician.com/hc/...interfaces

update: Seems like it might work with any ASIO driver devices but some function may be limited.
