I have this laptop, AMA.

For those who want the gamer/power user details:

RTX 3060 with 115W default TDP on "Optimized" (as of latest BIOS) power setting. The quiet/cool options throttle to 45W TDP. While the "Performance" option unlocks 125W TDP (with higher noise). Removing the battery and running on AC power also throttles the GPU for some reason.

Default 2x8GB DDR4-3200 is 1R16 memory (less performance). You can't enable XMP so you are stuck using 1.2V modules. Can still get better performance than stock with 1R8 modules. I'm using dual rank 2x32GB CL22 DDR4-3200 G.Skill modules with no issue.

I haven't figured out a way to enable undervolting for CPU (thanks to Plundervolt patch for Intel CPUs) and undervolting the GPU in MSI Afterburner causes weird TDP throttling reducing performance. So unfortunately you are stuck with silicon lottery and undervolting doesn't appear to be possible. My GPU is capable of +1500 on the memory though, which is very nice. Popping off the bottom chassis cover gives you access to m.2 slots (x2), wifi card, memory slots, etc.

All in all, if you have need for a decent laptop with top of the line Intel CPU and solid graphics performance, you could do worse. It's definitely not very tweakable, however.

I have this laptop and it does run quite hot. In optimized power setting, it would regularly run 95C to 100C while gaming on a laptop riser for airflow, thermal throttling on the CPU. The GPU would get to about 80C. I repasted using MX-5 2x (a total pain to get to, don't recommend) and didn't get any better results. That said, I got the IETS GT500 cooling pad and for the most part, it resolved the issue of temps. It plays at about 80C now, with small spikes to 95C on the CPU and the GPU stays around 75C.

For whatever reason, my core 5 is the problem core, as it hangs out around 15C hotter than my other cores. Probably just silicon lottery, as I've repasted it 3x now…

How is the screen? Does it use pwm to control the backlight?

I apologize, but I can't really say for certain. I do know that the 120hz screens are the bad screens (terrible response times) and the 165hz screens are great. I myself have the 165hz screen and have zero complaints on it.
