Note for older potential buyers: Your fingerprints degrade over time and the result is they are harder to read by these devices.

If it can store multiple fingerprints, try registering multiple fingers in case the first one doesn't work.

As noted, the point is to keep nosy folks out, and for you to get in quick, not to stop a thief.

Also, fire ratings are for *paper* catching fire. It will not protect thumb drives or plastics (such as recent passports). For that you'll need a "data safe". And of course, data safes are not rated for theft deterrence/strength, just heat/fire.

There are burglary ratings for safes, but that puts you in the $500+ range to start.

Look for a safe and vault store online for guidance on those products.

At this price range, it is likely to be a rebranded Sentry or Honeywell. Definitely check what LPL has to say if he's reviewed it.

Vaultek does make some decent gun safes. Also, check into "Dorm Safes" if fingerprint convenience is needed as well as some theft deterrence. They use a cable loop around a sturdier object (like a bolted bed frame or structural post/pipe) for deterring theft.

I know it's not in the same stratosphere, but I owned a safe similar to this that I got for free. I would never rely on a fingerprint reader when you need critical, speedy access to what's within. I had to register my fingerprint as 4 separate users and it would still get hung up.

I bought this [amazon.com] and it's fantastic. Mine took a 9V battery (looks like they've updated it to be rechargeable), gave a low battery alarm, a tamper alarm, and the combo works fast and easy Every. Single. Time. It's spendy, but the unit is absolute quality. The 20 series will fit a full size and a subcompact with room for a magazine or two if you're creative. If it weren't so spendy, I'd put one in my vehicle as well.

At 19lbs, it won't take much for this 'safe' to walk away.
The owner would ideally secure it...

Naw. There are holes where you are supposed to bolt this down into whatever from the inside.

This is geared for the people who want a safe but also don't need or can't afford 1/2 ton safe for $4k.

Anyone have experience with this product? Looking to use it as a safe for a pistol.

Thanks!

How fireproof is this, and how easy is it to hack the biometric scanner?

I can't find any information about this safe; does anyone know where to find the manual? Ordered one for my mother and plan to install it on Thurs or Fri but not sure if it comes with the mounting hardware / what I have to purchase for install.

Also, as someone else asked, is this fire rated?

Good price for more substantial protection than the generic hotel safe at roughly the same cost!

14x14x10 inches...and that's the exterior measurements.

Is this a safe for ants?

I paid $85 in store last year.
I like it a lot for what I paid. It holds papers, and has enough room for lots of other stuff.

The fingerprint sensor works flawlessly. There is a backup set of keys if the sensor doesn't work.

I'd recommend this.

The third picture shows a pistol inside the safe so it would probably be suitable for that purpose.
