The SSD on the 7+ is relatively easily upgradable.

I cannot understand why Microsoft feels comfortable selling Pro 8 base model (8G/128GB) at $1099 which does not even come with a type cover that is about $130. And there are these "business" versions that come with i3 CPUs. By comparison, Macbook Air is marked at $999 and have sales at $800 or even $750, comes with 8G/256GB and a much faster processor.

I get it that Windows OS and the form factor are important to many people. But is that worth a $300 premium? I thought it used to work the other way around. Not to mention that most people probably use it with a type cover i.e. as a laptop anyway.

The i3-1115G4 isn't that far behind the i5-1035G4 on the Surface Pro 7, and performs about the same as 10th-gen "Comet Lake" i5 processors. Those going "eww i3" just don't know what they're talking about.

Nope, the business version came with an i3 to start. What's interesting about this is that the SP7+ i3 versions always came with Windows 10 Pro. I guess Microsoft is dumping their excess SP7+ inventory into the retail channels with Windows 11 Home.

Are the type covers the same for surface pros over the years? I have a 2017 model, was thinking of upgrading, and don't want to buy an extra type cover unless I need to.

Hi Purpledime, we purchased a couple of 6's for our college-age kids and they've performed quite well, however we bought the i5 processor, so I don't know how this i3 would compare. I think it all boils down to the most basic question…what are you going to do with it? I.e. what's your use case….

PWM has been detected on this which is quite severe. Has anyone experienced any problems due to that?

If you are set on a Surface - this is a great deal just for web browsing and word processing. If you're open to non-Surface models, you can get something much cheaper, but will not have the small form factor of the Surface.
