A kinetic recovery strap provides a mechanical advantage to allow you to do more with less, that is its ONLY advantage, convert your momentum into additional force. To imply they are safer is misleading. Rated break strength is rated break strength. When they do fail, it is more hazardous because of that buildup of kinetic energy in the strap. Shoot a rubber band with your finger and shoot a loop of string with your finger. The rubber band is far more impressive. Not every recovery operation requires a true kinetic nylon stretchable strap and a build up of momentum with a running start to get the target unstuck.
Those are no where NEAR $8.

I've too many of these, but decent price for one. You might get better pricing with some kind of pack from HF:

I agree on the dangers - if you're using a kinetic recovery strap, using soft shackles is ideal. what else?

This is a TOW strap, NOT a RECOVERY strap
This is mislabeled. This is a TOW strap, NOT a RECOVERY strap. Tow straps are designed not to stretch and are used to tow a free-rolling vehicle. Recovery straps (also called "snatch straps") are designed to stretch under load - the good ones stretch up to 15-20%. The stretch and then recoil helps to free a stuck vehicle."

you can use this strap to tow/recover, but this is NOT kinetic rope.
meaning this strap you have to preload the strap before pulling, instead of yanking with no tension.

I have one that I keep in the bag on my boat and another for my 4 wheeler. They have worked well for my needs but when it comes to pulling vehicles I never push the limit. If you have ever had a rope snap and whip by your head you tend to become more cautious.
you could also put one end around the tow hook like you say and put it INTO the hitch of the tow vehicle, and put the pin through the loop. again.. for ditch recovery only.
imo, the best thing to do is get a pair of properly rated shackles to go with it. infinitely better than hooks.
