FYI You can get this for about $100 less if you can verify with Id.me directly from GE. I paid around $450

Seems to be only an added military discount that brings it down that much

I hate tanks of water sitting out in the light...good way to get bacteria over time if you are not constantly using it.
Weird fact: water can be completely sanitized by putting it into a plastic container and setting it in (sun)light for as little as 6 hours. Indoor locations without direct light (i.e. protected from solar UV radiation) need not apply. This is why I regularly wash out my espresso tank when I descale every month...you know, the one that I disassembled and modified to connect to my filtered water supply from the sink so I didn't have to refill it. I'm a bit like Sid from Toy Story, but with kitchen appliances.

How much ice do you make out of 1 gallon? How often do you refill the water tank?
I can't really say for sure how much ice is made out of a gallon, maybe a few of the containers worth. I tend to fill the reservoir probably every other day with 3 people in the house pulling ice from it.

This is a great find. Thank you for posting.

My boyfriend is obsessed with the good ice. We found, for us, it was more economical just to buy bags of ice at chick-fil-a. They are $1.59/bag. Most of the time, it's just him at home so he only goes through about two bags of ice per week.

If you choose to buy this, I would strongly recommend buying the warranty because these ice machines are notoriously unreliable and short-lived.

I got this a year or two ago at best buy for the bf sale. We love it. It only holds about 3lb of ice at a time but it refills within a few hours. I use filtered water in it and we don't have to clean it much.

What are they going to do? Program it to make an ice sculpture of the middle finger? "Hohoho fark you snooty Americans! Hohoho"

Reviews are mixed about this one. Was recently on sale on Amazon and people complained about several broken ones that just made loud whirling sounds and stuff without actually making ice. Hit or miss. If you get one that works, expect good ice for a year before it needs replaced.
I've owned 4 of these. They fail within a year. There is one company that's authorized to repair them and your junk through hoops to get them to repair. Every single replacement unit they've sent me moans like a tortured dolphin after a month. Great ice garbage product and garbage service.

I bought the 1.0 version about 3 years ago when it went one sale at Amazon. It had a one year warranty and stopped working about 14 months in. Went through all the youtube repair videos and couldn't fix it. Also when taking it apart all the rubber tubing was calcified. I only used bottled water to fill it, and cleaned with the recommended solution every couple months.

Hesitant to give them another chance, but the ice was great while it worked, but $500 for a years worth of ice was ridiculous.

Does anyone know what the return process is through the all-state/citi warranty? Can I still just take it back to Costco in year 4 or 7 or do I have to go a different route through all-state and another route through Citi, where I have to pay for shipping (these suckers are very heavy)? When I wanted to send my first one back to Opal for repairs out of warranty the shipping alone was $150. The shipping and repairs was basically the same as the purchase price so I said forget it.

EDIT: I just spoke with Costco chat, and was told this was eligible for lifetime returns. Not sure if they were correct. I saved the chat log, can I use that to return to Costco when (not if) it breaks?
