FYI You can get this for about $100 less if you can verify with Id.me directly from GE. I paid around $450

Seems to be only an added military discount that brings it down that much

Can someone comment on how the ice tastes? The nugget ice from DQ is hard to top and I'm wondering if it's something in their water or just that nugget ice in general gives it that unique taste
It's unreal - it tastes like sonic ice.

Make sure you run the clean cycle with some bleach once a month. I also bleach and rinse out the water tank, The system grows mold because it's a stagnant / circulating water source in sunlight. Claims to have a UV light built in, but like all machines it is mold and scale prone. I don't use distilled water just filtered water from the fridge, also works with the Opal filter which is cross-compatible from gen 1.

I'm confused, How does this ice taste any different? What flavor does frozen water have?

It's 520 from them right now for the 2.0 with a first responder discount, I appreciate the heads up but I'll probably go Costco for the better warranty/exchange, maybe other forms of I'd.me her a better discount than firemen I'm not sure. I do appreciate it I didn't even know they had a discount for us.
It's 520 before the 10% discount (if First Responder and Military are the same discount). But you won't see that until you add to your cart then start the checkout process. So it should end up being 467 before taxes are added.

Looks like a great option for all of us owners of Samsung french door fridges that have broken/ frozen over ice makers.
This is exactly what I'm going through. It's a shame because the french door fridge is so nice & pretty. But Samsung's damn ice maker…..(smh).

Oh, these are totally the best interactions. My wife got to turn the tables on me this fall. She bought some Target "Made by Design" glass storage containers with the snap tops. JFC, like we don't already have enough tupperware? It's like an avalanche just opening that cabinet. I mean, sure, glass v plastic - man boobs and genetic damage and orange colored containers that we've microwaved spaghetti sauce in. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

Then I made a batch of guac and put it in one of the containers. The next day it had not turned brown on the top. Impressive, so I left half in rather than eating all of it. Two more days, practically no browning. What?!? I took one chips worth out and left the rest. After FIVE G D DAYS there was a slight discoloration on the top layer - probably due to me opening it the two previous times. It would have been gray goo by day three in the usual storage.

Needless to say, I ordered three more sets (with a coupon and the GC I got for 20% off, this is SD, after all), and threw out nearly all the other plastic storage-ware. And, yes, I let her say, "I told you so" without even flinching.
Are those (example: https://www.target.com/p/8pc-squa...A-53137811) different from other glass Snapware (examples: https://www.snapware.com/products...ss-storage) or just a variation in size?

It took me three years to pull the trigger and buy the 2.0. I watched over the years then working out some of the kinks. I finally bought one this past May at Best Buy. Mine has the side Reservoir. Literally the best purchase I ever made. My day is centered around getting as much ice as I can lol. It makes the ice really fast and mine runs nonstop. The two most annoying things are you have to constantly clean it or it will grow slimy very nasty. I don't know if it's because I live in Florida and the humidity or if this is just normal for this type of machine. A month ago it started making these crazy loud sounds I googled it and follow the manufacturers instructions and within a day all the sounds were gone. I don't expect it to last many years as a review say but I was a weekly sonic ice buyer.
I would buy a couple of bags every week come home repackage them all in gallon bags and put them in my small freezer half of it with melt on the bottom and chunk together. I figured out how much I was spending on SONIC Ice a year and it was almost exactly $550 the price of the machine. So that's what made me finally take the plunge. I'm going on a cruise soon and I alls I can think about is I have to be away from my ice machine for a week lol. Trust me it's the best ice you'll ever have.

Bacteria multiples it's fastest at 90F. Your ambient temperature in florida is probably close to that much of the time. I'm guessing you are using tab water, but any 'ponding' water is subject to bacteria development. I'd think do the cleaning regularly, opposed to when you notice slime. If the reservoir is exposed to sunlight some of the time, that probably helps. If you pull off the reservoir time to time and rinse it with a light bleach solution, that probably helps.

Also, storing the ice scoop in the ice is unsanitary, even thought it seems like no big deal. Google that for more info. Any ice machine owner should know. I doubt that's part of your problem, just throwing that in there bonus for free.

I want to believe I can buy a $500 ice maker and believe I could get $500 use of it before breaking so bad. I dont feel lucky right now.

That's all I know. Hope there was at least one nugget that helped.
