FYI You can get this for about $100 less if you can verify with Id.me directly from GE. I paid around $450

Seems to be only an added military discount that brings it down that much

This thing is too fancy for me. I'm stuck with ice trays.

We have this! Gave to wife for her birthday last September. It works well, a little noisy, but it is the good ice. Make sure the hose to reservoir is flat, otherwise bubbles may appear. Which will prevent water to go into the tank.

Any tips for cleaning that don't involve lugging the entire machine over to the sink?

Have a 1.0 with a reservoir tank and it's long overdue for a cleaning.

How much ice do you make out of 1 gallon? How often do you refill the water tank?
One gallon would make 8 lbs of ice.

I saw same thing but once added to cart the discount applies. you can also get the 1.0 version which I currently have for about another $40-$50 off.
When I looked on the GE site it was $620 so even with 10% off it was a lot more. If I go through ID.me it takes me to myaptstore and not the main GE site and it's 20% off before the 10% discount and does come to $452 for the stainless steel version.

There are a lot of these on sale on FB marketplace which tells me that a lot of people returned these to Amazon. Also, you can buy a lot of 20lb bags of ice for $400…just saying.

Are those (example: https://www.target.com/p/8pc-squa...A-53137811) different from other glass Snapware (examples: https://www.snapware.com/products...ss-storage) or just a variation in size?
I don't know. They have what feels like a hollow/soft silicone seal in the lid which is more compliant than the plastic Snapware(R) I have for pasta. They're also all square (which I prefer about a million times over round/spherical for storage) and cheaper. But I've not tested a glass Snapware(r) version.

We just hold a gallon bucket by the edge of the counter and turn the machine to be able to reach it

You can purchase the silicone medical/food grade hose and connectors and extend the drain lines to wherever. (following the rules of gravity, of course).

I bought and ended up returning one of these about 2 years or so ago. While the ice was great, the machine continually makes an unpleasant noise, it takes up a huge amount of counter space, and it never has enough ice for us. At the price it would take a large amount of visits to sonic to justify the cost.

If you had a separate game room, could figure out running a water line to it, and have the space for it then it may be worth it. Or getting bags of ice from sonic if you have one nearby would work.

Some people want their ice as pure and fresh as possible, without the wait. Freezer made ice is icky unless it has its own dedicated compartment. You'll need a lot of Arm & Hammer boxes to keep the smells away from the ice if you don't.

Have one of these 2.0 machines and it can be a little noisy when running. Price wise I think this is the same as what I paid last year but if it qualifies for Costco lifetime return then is better to purchase from here.

We always use filtered water and clean with a little bleach each month. No issues to date.
are you basically replacing vinegar with bleach when cleaning ?
I'm not familiar with using bleach for descaling so thought to ask. Thanks.

Strongly suggest using distilled water or HIGHLY purified WATER (not just Britta filtered water) as it will keep this unit running cooler and much less cleaning the insides of the unit/hoses. We had problems with heat/cleaning often etc using Britta water but switched to our ultra purified water and it's doing well now (we have the original opal guess it's gen 1 before GE bought it)

Think the 4 year is most likely good (costco card). Not sure if $80 is worth another 3 years. Any other advantages getting allstate?
