Definitely not for me, I need complete darkness and quietness to sleep. Good point though.
One still sleeps in the dark, the red light is used for the hour or two before going to bed. Lots of people do this with their electronic devices, making them display everything with a reddish tint in the evening. There's f.lux software for PC or Twilight for Android and now iPhone and others can do this without needing a 3rd party app.

Theory is that our brains are wired to be awake in blue skies and get sleepy at red-sky sunset and/or firelight in the evening. Also may reduce eye strain.

They need cans - I had to get cans installed for these to work
Crud. I ordered two sets and don't currently have cans. Guess I'll make the decision when they arrive.

I have seen other cheaper lights that are smart and use color changing. What is it about this that would be better than other lights that connect to SmartThings?
Philips make some $20 ones using the "wiz" app that connect via wifi. The biggest difference is that they suck. They lose connection and don't respond. So you can spend half as much on something that doesn't work or pay $45 for one that does.

Does hue have a circadian feature that will change the color depending on the time?
Yes, the app has easy recipes both for "go to sleep" and "wake up with light" where you can schedule days/time as well as the fade in/out interval, default 15 mins. You can configure more advanced time recipes manually in app as well.

UGH, nice price. I'd pay a premium for thin mount smart lights so I don't have to walk down our L-shaped hall in the dark constantly. I'm so frustrated these only come in retrofit (which means old big cans that we replaced years ago). I can't convince my spouse to install yet another smart wall switch after the first one needed the wiring in the ceiling changed then went bad 3-4 years of use and the replacement needed the lights to be wired back to original only to be returned for problems.

It looks like the CRI, color rendering index, on these is 80? That's pretty mediocre, I wouldn't install anything less than 90 for any place in the house I spend much time in.

I agree - a $50 smart light switch would do the same if you don't want color.
I have Hue & Caseta. Hue just for lamps where I want color
I agree. A good rule of thumb is Hue for accent (non-fixture) lighting only, with two or three exceptions for downlights and/or fixtures; TV room, Master Bedroom and Jacuzzi/bath.

Adaptive lighting, you mean? Hue works with Apple's adaptive lighting.
