My gf is on her brother's family plan when they shared a switch. Got her one for Xmas, now I'm wondering if I can disassociate her account from his family plan and get our own so that I can use it, too?

Yeah sure... They're codes that don't expire... Just don't lose them. The cards would be a nice problem to have. I'd be all over it if I didn't already have the expansion membership.
