WARNING: I have been trying to get Total to release my sons cell number to transfer to another carrier since mid-December 2021. We finally gave up and activated his phone with another carrier and got a new number. Several emails, phone calls, and chat sessions have gotten me nowhere, no real person ever returns the call and messages to cancel the service are not fulfilled. I have resorted to deciding to just report the charges as fraud on my credit card and documented the contact attempts. If you want to keep your number, I'd stay away from them. The service was marginally okay for a teenager for the price but personally I would have been very upset to have to change my number. The service is still active and not cancelled.

I do see many people asking about unlocking policy.

Well as per the new policy after take over from Verizon in November,Tracphone has updated its unlocking policy for apple devices to be 60 days post activation if activated after Nov 23rd-2021

That said,I have reached to multiple customer care rep and have even called and the fact that it gets unlocked after 60 days is something they all echoed but there was difference on if it active service or just first month of activation. There is no proven way until Jan 23rd to see when this first set of deals got launched to see how it goes.

The unlocking policy does mention it will automatically unlock after 60 days - But if some one or most of the folks trading in should not have a problem .If you plan to keep this phone for a longer run and use it I would activate the service for the second month to avoid any hassle in pushing Customer rep to unlock .As i did call out we will have to wait to see how it actually works. Its an additional $20-$22 to get some total wireless prepadi cards on sale or deals.

In the worst case if this not does not get honored we can still encash for trade in or other options to sell this for cash.

Any one with still having doubts on the unlock policy can contact customer care for their satisfaction before they jump in - however as i mentioned its more of waiting game as I did realize it was not consistent reply.

Not true. A lot people probably received screen replaced phone but just couldn't tell and they thought they receive good like new phone. For me, I couldn't tell it either until I brought it to Apple and found it out when warranty was denied. Apple guy then taught me how to identify fake screen, that's how I spotted my 2nd xr was also fake screen. My 3rd xr was ok, but just heavily used before.
I had a few from last deal and NONE of the screens looked the same. Screen settings were same for all even true tone is off. If you see dark/dim screen or reflective screen when off then it is most likely none genuine.

Did the genius say use a flash light 1 feet up with screen off and note the light pattern on a real screen it is sharper lines? What to look for?

What is the BB trade in y'all are talking about for? A specific new phone, or just store credit? Thanks!

Yes of course. The Apple guy teaches me these.

1st, look at the 2 screws in the bottom. In this black phone, you shouldn't see any silver usage mark and should be black screws. Otherwise, phone is being opened.

2. Check True Tone, if no true tone, 100% fake. But these days, company can fake true tone now.

3. Turn the black color with the highest brightness. The black color should be solid black, no dot or yellow dot or red if it is original.

4. Turn to white color. Original is more yellow and soft, fake is pure white and bright. In the highest brightness setting with white color, the original won't hurt your eyes and is more comfortable. Fake one will hurt your eyes in 2 seconds, since it is very bright white.

5. Change to red earth built in wallpaper. The red should be very solid in color. The fake one is not as solid red and more transparent than original.
For 3 to 5 truetone needs to be off?

Also 6. Use flashlight from another phone from 1-2 feet. If you see lines on the screen, it is fake.

Doesn't matter. Best buy doesn't verify. Choose whichever gets you highest trade in

Leave true tone on. It will make fake screen more obvious.

Thanks, we need to turn UK VPN to activate phone inside USA? Did you do this too?? This is as per that ebay listing.
Why do you need RSIM? TW unlocking policy says the device can be unlocked 60 days after activation no matter whether it has a service plan or not.

The following is just my experience. I bought a refurbished iphone SE 2 last spring from Total Wireless for $120is The screen was replaced, and the glue signs were on edges. The screen was not responsive, I had to press hard to register a single touch. I initiated a non-fault return and shipped it back at my expense, then they charged me more then $70 restocking fee. I contacted them but no help. Horrible people and horrible company.
The last sentence sums it up, total wireless is the worst customer service company I've ever dealt with and will screw you every bit of the way. I had a similar issue to this with an IPhone that wasn't even supposed to be "reconditioned " and it clearly was, and then they attempted to charge me restocking, wouldn't add the plan I had purchased to the current acct I held with them for almost 8 years, and then tried to charge my recurring card the next month for payment on the line that I had paid restocking fee for and had proof of return. They are a garbage company and their outsourced employees are boneheads to boot.

Have you actually tried the BB trade-in before? Since TW isn't a listed carrier in the trade-in drop-down, will they still accept the phone? TIA!

Save the unactivated sim for port in to a diff company/future deal.
This won't work with total wireless. Sims are tied to the phone they are purchased with and cannot be reused or switched out.

I've been with total for more than three years and bought five or six reconditioned iPhones.

All looked new cosmetically. Screen quality looked genuine Apple screen. Battery health. was always 100%.

Also when my son broke his phone, i had to switch phones couple of times keeping his phone numbers. And this was so easy to do on the website.

I have no use of this total wireless cards. Can I sell them for spare change on eBay? Not sure if it is worth the selling and shipping fees
