WARNING: I have been trying to get Total to release my sons cell number to transfer to another carrier since mid-December 2021. We finally gave up and activated his phone with another carrier and got a new number. Several emails, phone calls, and chat sessions have gotten me nowhere, no real person ever returns the call and messages to cancel the service are not fulfilled. I have resorted to deciding to just report the charges as fraud on my credit card and documented the contact attempts. If you want to keep your number, I'd stay away from them. The service was marginally okay for a teenager for the price but personally I would have been very upset to have to change my number. The service is still active and not cancelled.

I do see many people asking about unlocking policy.

Well as per the new policy after take over from Verizon in November,Tracphone has updated its unlocking policy for apple devices to be 60 days post activation if activated after Nov 23rd-2021

That said,I have reached to multiple customer care rep and have even called and the fact that it gets unlocked after 60 days is something they all echoed but there was difference on if it active service or just first month of activation. There is no proven way until Jan 23rd to see when this first set of deals got launched to see how it goes.

The unlocking policy does mention it will automatically unlock after 60 days - But if some one or most of the folks trading in should not have a problem .If you plan to keep this phone for a longer run and use it I would activate the service for the second month to avoid any hassle in pushing Customer rep to unlock .As i did call out we will have to wait to see how it actually works. Its an additional $20-$22 to get some total wireless prepadi cards on sale or deals.

In the worst case if this not does not get honored we can still encash for trade in or other options to sell this for cash.

Any one with still having doubts on the unlock policy can contact customer care for their satisfaction before they jump in - however as i mentioned its more of waiting game as I did realize it was not consistent reply.

Guys. I just came back from Apple store to pick up my phone for this TW iphone XR repair and inspection. Apple just confirmed with me that not only the display has been replaced with unauthorized part. Now Apple also confirmed the battery has been replaced and being coded to bypass the ios 15.2 detection. Now my phone is showing the Battery Unknown Part message, it wasn't there before i sent to Apple. I.just filed PayPal claim as it is counterfeit product. You need to be careful, even you think you received this look like new phone. Watch out and big warning!
What made you to take it to apple store from the start? Dead on arrival?

They almost always replace the battery, unless the phone itself is a brand new one.

There is an easy way to check if screen is original or not. Use your finger slightly slide through the screen, if you feel it is not that smooth, like some kind of glue on the surface, it is the replaced third-party screen. Original one has the coating on top which feels very smooth.

There is a white spot on the screen like sesame size. I was suspecting it might be replaced screen that time. Now, Apple just confirmed not only screen is fake, battery has been replaced, so it is showing 100% with 1 charge since it is new fake battery. I also found out my Face ID is not working as well since Apple reset everything back to what it supposed to be.

Where can I check?

My order status is still in processing, but I just got a UPS pending shipment notification. (From Cooper General)
Once you receive shipment email from total wireless, there will be a link of activate. If you click that, you can get IMEI number and check warranty at apple site.

Hopefully my credit card's purchase protection will cover if my iPhone has any 3rd party parts.

So now if TW is referring you to Apple (someone else mentioned), and Apple will not replace, next logical step is to tell that to TW, if they don't make it right (return at their expense, refund, or replacement), then dispute with CC company? TW is trusting a third party to inspect and refurbish these devices to like new condition (not implying use of oem part per se), seems like the third party is being lax on quality control.

Sounds like those sellers on eBay that advertise as refurbished, when in fact they are heavily used (AirPods? Yuck).

Anyone remember the CowBoom days? I ordered plenty of stuff at that time and the grading was all over the place.

I don't think anyone should realistically expect these were refurbished with OEM parts.

It's rather well known Apple don't sell OEM parts to 3rd parties and whoever claims they sell OEM parts should be taken with huge grain of salt.

For $120 it looks good use good and all? Be happy with it. If it comes with all OEM parts then consider yourself won a lottery. Otherwise good luck eBay Swappa etc hunting.

I agree, and not sure where the defect on the screen is, but I would expect new battery and decent quality replacement screen with no glaring defects being sold as "refurbished" from an actual corporate company. I feel like that is what I received.

Absolutely correct. Using 3rd party stuff doesn't mean they can use lesser quality stuff. It has to work just like OEM parts.

But I see people not happy with 3rd party parts even though the phone is 100% AOK…that's unrealistic.

Or physical visits work the best as you said. Went twice and on 3rd time they replaced my 1 year old phone.

Do you have an Apple Store or an authorized repair center nearby? You can demonstrate the touch issue and there's usually same day turnaround for screen replacements.
hard to get apple appointment now a days.. not showing any eligibility for at least 2-3 weeks near my area

Yes. I was led to believe TW refurb phone uses original parts. It turns out that's not the case, confirmed by Apple for both battery and display. To make it worst is TW recoded the screen and display to make it like oem, now being caught by Apple and Apple resetting everything back, and Face ID is no longer working. If TW is honest and upfront, I would accept it. The problem is it is not.
