WARNING: I have been trying to get Total to release my sons cell number to transfer to another carrier since mid-December 2021. We finally gave up and activated his phone with another carrier and got a new number. Several emails, phone calls, and chat sessions have gotten me nowhere, no real person ever returns the call and messages to cancel the service are not fulfilled. I have resorted to deciding to just report the charges as fraud on my credit card and documented the contact attempts. If you want to keep your number, I'd stay away from them. The service was marginally okay for a teenager for the price but personally I would have been very upset to have to change my number. The service is still active and not cancelled.

I do see many people asking about unlocking policy.

Well as per the new policy after take over from Verizon in November,Tracphone has updated its unlocking policy for apple devices to be 60 days post activation if activated after Nov 23rd-2021

That said,I have reached to multiple customer care rep and have even called and the fact that it gets unlocked after 60 days is something they all echoed but there was difference on if it active service or just first month of activation. There is no proven way until Jan 23rd to see when this first set of deals got launched to see how it goes.

The unlocking policy does mention it will automatically unlock after 60 days - But if some one or most of the folks trading in should not have a problem .If you plan to keep this phone for a longer run and use it I would activate the service for the second month to avoid any hassle in pushing Customer rep to unlock .As i did call out we will have to wait to see how it actually works. Its an additional $20-$22 to get some total wireless prepadi cards on sale or deals.

In the worst case if this not does not get honored we can still encash for trade in or other options to sell this for cash.

Any one with still having doubts on the unlock policy can contact customer care for their satisfaction before they jump in - however as i mentioned its more of waiting game as I did realize it was not consistent reply.

Order just shipped. Pretty quick all things considered since some in the last thread were waiting ages

Edit: checked IMEI. Shows a purchase date of 9-8-21 with repairs and service coverage until 9-8-22. Just apple limited warranty though, not apple care eligible
How/Where did you check IMEI? I got the shipping notification as well. Placed order late afternoon yesterday.

If you have the IMEI in hand check it on sickw dot com. I think that is the site mentioned most in the previous thread.

Edit: Sorry I dont think it is free any longer?

Thanks! My question is more basic.. How did you get the IMEI number using the UPS tracking info?

Click on the "ACTIVATE" button in your shipping email. There should be a pre-filled text box that has the IMEI. Don't go through with the activation. Back out.

Use that IMEI number at - https://imeicheck.com/iphone-imei-check to get details about your phone.

Yes. I was led to believe TW refurb phone uses original parts. It turns out that's not the case, confirmed by Apple for both battery and display. To make it worst is TW recoded the screen and display to make it like oem, now being caught by Apple and Apple resetting everything back, and Face ID is no longer working. If TW is honest and upfront, I would accept it. The problem is it is not.
What led you to believe they use Apple parts? I didn't see anything on their site that would imply that. And it makes sense that a refurbisher would tweak whatever setting are required to get it as close to original look as possible. It sounds like Apple is more to blame for screwing things up with the screen / Face ID by messing with things. They're kind of notorious for trying to keep things extremely proprietary and discourage the use of any third-party products and doing things like that to sabotage them and claim it's all because of an inferior product is one way they spread that belief to their customers. Don't get me wrong … their products are generally better because they use much more expensive parts and better QC. However, it sounds like they just made things worse and then just blame the parts as far as the screen goes, which is kind of a classic pass-the-buck move.

People are confusing the R-sim mechanics. R-sim is broad number of instruments built into 1 sim card. You may use some of it or may not. Older iphones used different vulnerabilities, exploited by r-sim.
Currently you only need iccid unlock feature of the r-sim. That is why you can buy just white sim card, which has only iccid unlock feature. Basically what it does, it spoofs the iccid number of your sim card to pretend to be eligible for activation on apple servers. Once activated, it will run like any other device that was unlocked through carrier. They are not closing this loophole for a while.
The only con is esim is still locked with it.
Yes I get that but am trying to see if we can reprogram an old rsim with new iccid and imsi using a SIM card reader instead of buying them again and again… I know there are two types the rsim 14 or 15 was the thin interposer type that had to be inside with the carrier sim till it's unlocked, why is that rsim different from other ones that you only need to insert once and then done? Till we reset.

Just wondering why it says appleCare eligible 'No'. Why can' we purchase it if we still have 34 days for repairs and Service.

Also one question we rsim unlock, does it show carrier unlocked in the settings about? With iOS 14 onwards they introduced a feature that shows in the settings of the iPhone is factory unlocked or carrier locked..

I think you can only buy Applecare within the first 30 (or 90 maybe?) days of purchase.
