WARNING: I have been trying to get Total to release my sons cell number to transfer to another carrier since mid-December 2021. We finally gave up and activated his phone with another carrier and got a new number. Several emails, phone calls, and chat sessions have gotten me nowhere, no real person ever returns the call and messages to cancel the service are not fulfilled. I have resorted to deciding to just report the charges as fraud on my credit card and documented the contact attempts. If you want to keep your number, I'd stay away from them. The service was marginally okay for a teenager for the price but personally I would have been very upset to have to change my number. The service is still active and not cancelled.

I do see many people asking about unlocking policy.

Well as per the new policy after take over from Verizon in November,Tracphone has updated its unlocking policy for apple devices to be 60 days post activation if activated after Nov 23rd-2021

That said,I have reached to multiple customer care rep and have even called and the fact that it gets unlocked after 60 days is something they all echoed but there was difference on if it active service or just first month of activation. There is no proven way until Jan 23rd to see when this first set of deals got launched to see how it goes.

The unlocking policy does mention it will automatically unlock after 60 days - But if some one or most of the folks trading in should not have a problem .If you plan to keep this phone for a longer run and use it I would activate the service for the second month to avoid any hassle in pushing Customer rep to unlock .As i did call out we will have to wait to see how it actually works. Its an additional $20-$22 to get some total wireless prepadi cards on sale or deals.

In the worst case if this not does not get honored we can still encash for trade in or other options to sell this for cash.

Any one with still having doubts on the unlock policy can contact customer care for their satisfaction before they jump in - however as i mentioned its more of waiting game as I did realize it was not consistent reply.

An oem battery replacement cost $79 at apple store. You really think for $125 you're getting an oem screen and battery?
It's crazy some expect too much from too little. ๐Ÿ˜

Yes I get that but am trying to see if we can reprogram an old rsim with new iccid and imsi using a SIM card reader instead of buying them again and againโ€ฆ I know there are two types the rsim 14 or 15 was the thin interposer type that had to be inside with the carrier sim till it's unlocked, why is that rsim different from other ones that you only need to insert once and then done? Till we reset.
insert and done is kinda new technology probably 1.5 years old only. So last 2 generations of r-sim should have an option to change iccid. So if you old r-sim is not old enough, then you can definitely use that. Just check if it supports iccid entries.

Most likely the battery has been replaced. Why would anyone expect the almost 1 year old phone still has 100% battery health. Just impossible.
Yeah, I'm okay with the replacement battery but the replacement 3rd party display? My OCD says no. ๐Ÿ™…

That's basically inevitable for 3rd party refurb iPhone's that needs screen replacement.

For XR it's relatively more OK because it's still LCD and LCD is a very mature tech. For OLED yes the difference is more noticeable.

Most of us will just trade in for $, so not really concerned about LCD and battery.
If you are a user of this phone, then better get cricket XR for $50+3 month of service = $220 but you get a new phone. +$100 for a new phone, why not if you are bothered with oem battery and screen? You will spend more in repairs to get oem battery and screen, so +100 seems to be right.

Others will just take a gamble for $121, if it works good, if not then no biggie.

I can put my rsim 13 from 2018 purchase in an old iPhone 5 to edit iccid but when I input iccid and then update on the older iPhone 5 and then insert this rsim into iPhone 11 or 12 what needs be done? If it has updated iccid do we need to update imsi also? I am reading att, tmo sprint have different IMSI in addition to diff iccid...

The incidents mentioned above that people receive phones with fake parts are horrible.
why people keep calling aftermarket parts "fake".

Yes, if TW is upfront and honest about it, I will accept the phone as is. In my case, TW recoded the serial numbers for the parts and misled us to believe it is original. Now Apple caught it and resets everything back. I no longer have true tone, face id, and that annoying battery message shows up all the time even it is a like new phone. I wouldn't tell these fake parts if it wasn't Apple.
sorry to hear about your ongoing issues with tw and the refurb products.
I would be angry as well.

I personally know what to expect with these prepaid companies and their 'refurb' products. I don't mind the third party stuff. I actually purchase them and in those threads I tell people to expect aftermarket screens and batteries. Some people respond saying it's not possible along with other stuff but it's good to know what to expect. Some people have gotten new devices and the majority of us have gotten 3rd party products.

I personally bought 4 xr's from the deal last month and so far no issues.

I also bought a refurb in a previous deal for one of my uncles and his has been going good so far.

Hope you get your money back

I have purchased refurb iPhone 6, 7, se 1st gen, se 2nd gen, XR, and 8
the prices are really good.
I remember one time the iPhone 6 refurb was around $30 and Costco/tmobile had a deal that you could trade in an iPhone 6 and get an iPhone XR for 'free' after a big mail in rebates. Crazy deals back then

if you got the most newes iccid written on it, then just update your 11 or 12 to ios 15.2 and insert that r-sim and proceed with iccid unlock. If everything worked out good, then you will see activation process screen again when you insert rsim.

Right, I will consider trading-in @ Apple for $200, then may consider buying a new iPhone 11 for $249.

I was able to place an order at around 8.30am CST. May be it is still active? Not sure if I will get an order cancelled notice but nothing to that effect so far.

It should be no contest getting the iPhone 11 for $249 over the XR refurbished regardless of OEM parts or not (if intending to keep phone). Problem was the iPhone 11 was not available at the $249 price 2 days ago when the XR was available again.

I had to do both when I did it last month. I searched and found couple different websites and used the latest one.
